OVERVIEW:
The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) is responsible for promoting and maintaining the physical, mental, and social well-being of manufacturing and administrative employees in the workplace. This role focuses on preventing and treating work-related injuries and illnesses, managing employee wellness programs, administering leave such as FMLA/Short Term and Long Term Disability/ADA, ensuring OSHA compliance with required programs, and providing employee training such as CPR/First Aid/BBP, etc. The OHN collaborates closely with the Human Resource and Safety teams to ensure a healthy company culture is maintained, while all compliance regulations are met. This position covers four facilities in Georgia, Florida, and Canada.
RESPONSIBILITIESInjury & Illness Management
Provides first aid and emergency care to employees injured or ill at workManages all aspects of worker's compensation cases for all worksites and coordinates with insurance providers as necessaryAssists with the return-to-work process, including assessing fitness for duty and collaborating with management to ensure accommodations for injured workersManages personal medical illnesses/injuries and coordinates all aspects of FMLA, short term disability, long term disability, and ADA cases
Health Surveillance & Monitoring
Organizes periodic, OSHA-required health screenings (e.g., vision, audiometric, respiratory fit tests, pulmonary function tests, etc.) and immunization programs to ensure employee fitness for dutyMaintains accurate medical records in compliance with confidentiality and data protection regulationsMaintains medical clinic supply inventory, replenishes when necessaryPerforms monthly AED inspectionsMaintains OSHA 300 and 300A logs in conjunction with the Safety teamEnforces GIW's Drug & Alcohol Policy and administers drug screens, makes referrals to EAP, and ensures employees are working safely according to the policies and procedures
Employee Health Education & Counseling
Provides health education to employees on an individualized basis, while also providing company-wide training on a quarterly basisImplements health promotion programs and/or competitions such as smoking cessation, weight loss, etc.Provides simple first aid care to employees when necessary, educates employees on injury/illness self-care, and directs employees to appropriate providers when outside of scope of careResponsible for managing CPR/BBP/First Aid Training program and ensuring employees are up to date on certificationsUnderstands GIW's health benefits for employee education purposes
Collaboration & Advisory
Works and communicates closely with HR team, Safety team, and department managers/supervisors to ensure a healthy and safe work environmentServes as a health advisor to employees, providing support and referrals to healthcare providers when necessaryParticipates in health and safety committee meetings and provides input on health-related mattersEnsures compliance with GIW's company policies and local, state, and federal occupational health and safety laws and regulations
Risk Management & Emergency Preparedness
Assists in the development of emergency response plans, including handling workplace accidents, natural disasters, and public health emergencies (e.g., pandemics)Participates in drills and training programs for emergency response
Workplace Health Initiatives
Develops, implements, and evaluates health promotion programs designed to enhance employee well-being and productivityManages GIW's wellness program and coordinates annual health screenings, communicates deadlines, and tracks employee engagementCoordinates periodic events such as blood drives, health fairs, on-site mammogram bus, flu vaccine clinics, etc.Supports mental health initiatives by providing Employee Assistance Program resources, counseling, and referrals when necessary
QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or related field preferredActive Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licenseMinimum of 3-5 years nursing experience, with focus in occupational health or manufacturing preferredCPR certification requiredStrong knowledge of OSHA, FMLA, ADA, and other occupational health regulationsExperience in case management and worker's compensation claims managementExcellent clinical, emergency, and assessment skillsStrong communication and collaboration skillsAbility to work independently and make decisions in high-pressure situations
