The Division of Hematology/Oncology provides cutting edge cancer care and treatment through innovative cancer treatment research beyond settling for the status quo of guidelines. We educate and train young oncologists to be oncology thinkers and not just doers.

Job Duties

The Division of Hematology/Oncology provides cutting edge cancer care and treatment through innovative cancer tThis position assists with administrative and patient care activities required by the research studies. The incumbent has knowledge of all study protocols, recruit study participants and perform patient testing as directed by the Principal Investigator in accordance with Food and Drug Administration, the Institutional Review Board, study sponsor and principal investigator guidelines and regulations. The Nurse Specialist under the direction of the primary investigator will perform clinical skills as needed for assigned clinical trials. This may include venipuncture for labs as well as performing infusion procedures on patients per the direction of the primary investigator. The person in this role will case manage patients, document history, schedule testing, maintain open communication with healthcare team and have a working knowledge of hematology/oncology nursing care. The incumbent will serve as an advocate and educator for the patient population and other family members and work closely with members of both the research team and clinical staff.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with ECU Medical Center. ECU Medical Center is the flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Minimum Education/Experience

Graduation from state-accredited school of registered nursing and two years of nursing experience, with at least one year in the assigned specialty area. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
