Job Summary and Qualifications
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The EMG Technician performs high quality nerve conduction studies (NCS) for use in electromyography (EMG). Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
* Operates electromyography (EMG) equipment used in the diagnosis of nerve and muscle disease to determine the amplitude, conduction velocity, and latency times of peripheral motor and sensory nerves and will assist physicians in performing additional more advanced EMG techniques utilized in specific neurological diseases.* Obtains and documents required medical information.* Explains procedure, alleviates fears, and elicits cooperation.* Performs procedures in a professional manner and according to physicians orders in the patients chart.* Computes and records graphic data, analyzes and calculates results, and reports findings.* Cleans, adjusts and performs routine maintenance and repair on neurodiagnostic equipment to ensure proper functioning. Troubleshoots routine equipment problems.* Orders supplies when needed* Responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care.* Assumes responsibility for patient testing, quality control, and quality improvement.* Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within field.* Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.* Provides precise documentation on all recorded procedures.* Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the tech's care.* Addresses problems of patient as they arise and escalates to physician or management if needed.* Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.* Regular and dependable attendance.
EDUCATION:
* Completion of an accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology program and/or have at least six months experience involving training in both practical applications and theory directly related to Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS).
EXPERIENCE:
* Minimum 1-2 years of EEG experience
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
* BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.* Certification such as Registered Nerve Conducsion Study Technologist (R.NCS.T.)* Successful completion of a two year college program in Neurodiagnostic Technology or an equivalent Associates degree in Health Sciences or related field.* At least six months of NCS/EMG experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Knowledgeable and skilled in all EEG diagnostic testing of EEG testing* Knowledge of anatomy and physiology* Skill in performing a wide range of tests as directed, writing reports and completing records.* Ability to communication effectively
