JKV Public Safety Associate/EMT Trainee Pathway:
This program will provide opportunity for individuals to gain public safety/first responder experience while pursuing the Missouri EMT-B license.
This is a full-time, temporary position as a Public Safety Associate/EMT Trainee that will last no more than 8 months. The pay will be $16.00/hour. The Trainee will be required to have a Missouri Class E driver's license at time of hire. The Trainee will be required to complete the Emergency Medical Response (EMR) 40-hour training course and obtain the EMR and CPR certifications within 30 days of hire.
Trainees that are successful in obtaining their Missouri EMT-B license within 8 months of hire will be considered for transfer to the regular, full-time Public Safety Associate/EMT position. That will increase the pay to $17.00/hour. They will also be eligible for reimbursement of $1,000.00 towards their Missouri EMT-B tuition cost.
If at any point in the process from date of hire through the pathway the Trainee is not completing required steps successfully, they will be subject to separation of employment. Additionally, this is still considered an at-will employment position.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for establishing, promoting, and maintaining a sense of safety within the Village. Responds to calls as requested by dispatch. Investigates various incidents and requests. Supportive of the Village's mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training hours as required by policy.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Safety and Patrol - drives, patrols and observes activities within an assigned geographical area of the Village. Investigates suspicious behavior and unusual conditions.* Enforces Village policies, rules and regulations.* Performs Emergency Medical Response functions as necessary.* Inspects buildings and hallways for possible criminal activity with emphasis towards crime prevention and regard for personal safety.* Reports to dispatch and or Lee's Summit Police Department crimes in progress, civil disorders and any other unlawful activity.* Responds to all Public Safety calls for assistance, including medical emergencies.* Questions suspects, victims and witnesses to obtain statements. Collects evidence and appears in court as required.* Enforces Village traffic rules and participates in traffic control.* Responds to after-hours maintenance calls for repair and/or requests maintenance assistance.* Fills in as dispatcher as needed.* Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.* Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.* Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.
The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to perform all assigned responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
* This position requires the level of education typically acquired by a course of study leading to a high school diploma or GED.
Licenses/Certifications:
* Missouri Class E driver's license or equivalent required at time of hire.* Emergency Medical Response (EMR) certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.* CPR Certification for healthcare providers must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Knowledge and Skills (required unless otherwise noted):
* Basic level keyboarding skills required.* Experience with investigations of incidents and conflicts.* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks and procedure manuals.* Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.* Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other associates of the organization.* Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Special Working Conditions
* The associate is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.* All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
Physical and Mental Demands
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
* Heavy Work - Exerting up to 100 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 20lbs of force constantly to move objects.* The associate is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.* Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.* Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.* May need to stoop/bend, kneel, crawl, reach.* Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.* Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.* May need to push, pull, lift with regular or repetitive motion.* May need to pick up, pinch, type with fingers, grasp with fingers and palm.* May need to feel attributes of an object such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.* Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.* Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.* Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Supervision from Public Safety Supervisor. Receives work direction from Lead Public Safety.
