Position Summary
The Physician Assistant (PA) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) are responsible to practicing medicine with physician supervision and contribute to the physician's effectiveness by identifying short-term and a long-range patient care issue(s), recommend courses of action; and implements physician directives. As delegated by a physician, assists with the diagnostic, therapeutic and preventative healthcare services in medical and surgical care in the outpatient and/or inpatient settings. Duties include conducting examinations, orders and interpret tests, and writing prescriptions.
Essential Job Functions/Accountabilities
Provides routine or emergency medical management of patient care, including ordering of diagnostic tests, labs, x-rays, medications. Provides routine, acute and chronic patient care including orthopedic exam, wellness physical exams, pre-operative interview and exam (History and Physical), monitoring therapies, administering injections, minor office surgical procedures, and prescribing medications. Conducts minor procedures, including suturing, splinting and casting.
Promotes and maintains patient's health by providing medical services under the supervision of a physician. Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performs physical examinations; obtains medical histories. Establishes diagnoses for a patient's illness or injuries. Consults with physician and/or specialist, as appropriate.
Executes appropriate protocols including prescribing, as necessary, within the scope of license. Prescribes needed medicines to patients. Writes appropriate orders, including those for narcotics, stimulants, and depressant drugs.
Prepares patients for surgery, including positioning, skin preparation and administration of local anesthetic. Functions as first assistant in the operation room including surgical exposure, suturing and closure. Documents patient care services by charting in patient's medical records.
Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, including infection-control policies and protocols. Performs pre- and post- operative patient education to patients and their families. Provides follow-up and health maintenance care including the appropriate adjustment of medications in accordance with established protocols or in response to specific instructions from the attending Physician.
Monitors patients' progress and keeps records of treatments, surgeries or other medical events. Triage patient calls and takes appropriate action, or refers to appropriate physician or office staff. Communicates with referring or primary care physicians regarding patient care and treatment.

Works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, physicians, case managers and other advance practitioners. Maintains professional and technical knowledge.
Develops health care team staff by providing information, educational and experiential growth opportunities. May train and supervise medical residents engaged in specific clinical activities. (MGMAIII).

Position Requirements
Education: Nurse practitioner Masters prepared Degree. BLS certified. Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Ohio. Or Physician Assistant Degree. Certified by NCCPA. BLS certified. Licensed as a Physician's Assistant in the State of Ohio
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years' current clinical experience as NP or PA preferred.
