Description

Salud Para La Gente (SALUD) provides high quality, comprehensive and cost-effective healthcare to underserved low-income communities in the Monterey Bay area, including Santa Cruz County and North Monterey County. We began in Watsonville in 1978 as a storefront "free clinic," and with the ever growing need for health services, in 1992 became a federally qualified community health center (FQHC). Today we are a primary health care network with 11 clinic sites, over 400 employees and continue provide high quality services to patients of all ages.

The Lead Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) provides overall direction, representation and leadership for Nurse Midwifery at Salud Para La Gente, in accordance with Salud's vision, mission, mandates and strategy. The Lead CNM works with clinic management, physician leadership, and fellow CNMs for positive collaboration and to ensure a healthy, productive CNM culture. The Lead CNM is a core member of department leadership.

Essential Job Functions:

In addition to the routine duties of a Certified Nurse Midwife* with Salud, the Lead will have the following responsibilities.

* Actively participates in program development and initiates improvements for assigned programs.* Participates in setting annual objectives for the OBGYN department and the midwifery program.* Collaborates with fellow CNMs and physicians to create and maintain up-to-date clinical practice guidelines, policies and procedures as appropriate.* Attends Salud and department leadership meetings.* Participates in peer review committees for outpatient and inpatient setting.* Supervises the full scope midwives in the clinic and hospital settings.* Provides professional support following sentinel events.* Works in concert with nursing staff and providers to improve beside patient care of patients on the labor and delivery unit at Watsonville Community Hospital.* Conducts site CNM meetings and ensure midwifery team is informed about relevant internal and external issues.* Creates and manages the CNM call schedule with input from fellow CNMs. Educates and holds the call group accountable around scheduling requirements and, in conjunction with Clinic Manager, assures appropriate patient access.* Encourages local engagement in community events.* Collaborates with Salud recruiter on recruitment of and communication with applicants for open nurse midwifery positions. Coordinates mentorship and onboarding of new midwives.* Serves as liaison with university midwifery programs regarding placement of students and coordinates preceptorship with fellow CNMs.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Current CA Nurse Midwifery license through BRN and active certification through AMCB* Licensed Registered Nurse* Current CPR certification* Highly developed skills using computerized healthcare information systems, word processing, spreadsheets and presentation applications* Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills* Valid Driver's License and current vehicle insurance; must be able to travel between sites

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

* Bicultural* Bilingual English/Spanish.* Experience with non-profit community health centers

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

* Standing, walking, sitting, typing, reaching, bending, moving and/or lifting up to 25 pounds.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary: $160,115.50 - $193,398.84/yr

Benefits: available to all regular Salud employees working 24+ hours per week. Part-time employees may receive some benefits on a pro-rated basis.

Additional Information:

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Model family-centered and trauma-informed care, and engage in shared decision making with patients.* Perform antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum midwifery care, as well as preventive health services, gynecologic services and comprehensive family planning care as specified in written SPLG protocols. This includes health history, physical examination, lab ordering and interpretation, diagnosis, treatment and health education.* Refer appropriately to team members in keeping with the concept of multi-disciplinary team-based care.* Consult and refer to OBGYN's and FMOB's in outpatient and inpatient settings per established collaborative care guidelines.* Document all care rendered in EHR per standard professional expectations.* Participate in department meetings, peer review and quality improvement programs.* Provide clinical consultation to the Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP) and staff as needed and assist with evaluations of CPSP staff.* Facilitate classes when needed for groups of patients and families to provide information concerning pregnancy, childbirth and family planning.* Work with scheduling staff to ensure that provider productivity standards of 2.5 patients per patient care hour are achieved at a minimum.* Work in conjunction with supervisor, support staff and operations team to ensure optimal patient flow.* Demonstrate excellent communication skills. Consistently adhere to or exceed SPLG's communication guidelines and expectations in interactions with colleagues, patients, and external partners.* Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Active Registered Nurse license to practice in California* Active Nurse-Midwife license to practice in California* Active Nurse-Midwife Furnishing license* Current certification through the American Midwifery Certification Board* Active DEA certificate* Current CPR and NRP certification* Competence using personal computer tools including computerized healthcare information system, word processing, spreadsheets and presentation applications.* Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.* Valid CA Driver's License and current vehicle insurance; must be able to travel between sites.
