JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Paraprofessional
Classification: Non-Exempt
Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work: Full-Time Position. Monday - Friday 7:50 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Reports To: School Principal
Position Purpose:
A paraprofessional is a non-certified instructional staff person who does not hold the position of teacher, but assists in the classroom under the guidance of a teacher. Sometimes paraprofessionals are called Teaching Aids or Instructional Assistants. The Teaching Aid/Paraprofessional's job is to assist in teaching a diverse population of children in an atmosphere of kindness that encourages active inquiry, fosters individual growth and promotes respect for self, others and the world in which they live.
Essential Functions:
* Providing one-on-one or small-group tutoring for students.* Assisting with classroom management.* Providing instructional assistance.* Conducting parental involvement activities.* Acting as a translator.* Providing instructional support to a student under the direct supervision of a teacher.
Responsibilities (Instructional Process):
* Works with the teacher in planning and implementing a program of instructions that adheres to the school's philosophy, goals and objectives as outlined in the adopted charter.* Works with the teacher in making purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task.* Works with teacher in planning and implementing a program of study designed to meet individual needs of students.* Works with the teacher in creating a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.* Works with the teacher n encouraging student enthusiasm for the learning process and the development of good study habits.* Works with the teacher in providing progress through authentic observations.* Uses effective oral and written expression.* Works with the teacher in recognizing learning problems and makes referrals as appropriate alongside the teacher.
Curriculum Development:
* Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory and is willing to share this knowledge for continual improvement of the school's curriculum.
Classroom Management:
* Works with the teacher in developing, in accordance with school guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques that are consistently applied.* Works with the teacher in taking necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment's materials and facilities.* Shares responsibility during the school day for
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the School Principal and other central office Administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Uses standard office equipment such as computers, printer, copy and fax machines in the school environment.

Performance of the position will be in accordance with the Board's policies and procedures on evaluation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Ability to describe problems and work orally or in writing as required.* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.* Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and perform arithmetic operations.* Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, the internet, Outlook, electronic mail).* Ability to problem solve job-related issues.* Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.* Ability to process paperwork accurately according to standardized procedures.* Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.* Organizational and time management skills.* Knowledge of office management procedures.
Qualification Profile:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skills and knowledge for the successful execution of the aforementioned functions would be qualifying.
Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
* Previous school experience preferred.* Substitute Certification.* Associates Degree or Higher.
Terms of Employment: 10 Month Contract
