**SUMMARY OF POSITION:**
The Penn State Hershey Medical Center Children's Hospital Advanced Practice Fellowship will be a 12 month post graduate neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship that will educate highly qualified certified physician assistants and nurse practitioners to become competent, proficient, and compassionate neonatal providers. Through didactics and direct patient care, the fellow will obtain superior clinical skills allowing them to thrive in a fast paced critical care setting. This fellowship promotes a smooth transition to clinical practice by way of a multi-disciplinary healthcare approach among a team of skilled healthcare providers and collaboration with various other specialties.
**The neonatal fellowship curriculum will consist of both clinical and didactic education. The didactic sessions will include the following:**
APC/resident lecture, Pediatric ground rounds, Journal Club, Neonatal M&M, and a perinatal meeting. APC fellow will join the medical fellow education course. The fellow will be tested in the simulation lab with various mock scenarios. Additionally, the fellow will prepare 2 case presentations to be presented to the department and 1 APC journal club.
The clinical rotations will include time spent in the NICU, newborn nursery, with bedside NICU nurses, NICU high risk developmental clinic, pediatric radiology, maternal fetal medicine, pediatric cardiology, pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, pediatric surgery, and pediatric pulmonology. During NICU rotations, the fellow will also participate in air and ground transports with Life Lion.
The Penn State Hershey Medical Center is a tertiary care teaching hospital designated as a level IV neonatal intensive care unit providing the highest care to patients from surrounding areas. Advanced technology, appropriate facilities, and a modern approach to healthcare delivery will provide fellows with the resources needed to become a well-rounded provider who is a leader in the area of neonatal medicine.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):**
+ Master's Degree in Nursing and currently licensed to practice as a CRNP by the Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners required
**OR**
Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant Program or baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of Pennsylvania required and National Certification in Pennsylvania or in another State with reciprocity and licensure to practice in Pennsylvania required.
+ GPA of 3.5 and over
+ Current BLS & NRP certifications required.
+ Outstanding recommendations from clinical preceptors, program directors, or professional work experience.
**PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):**
+ For Nurse Practitioner candidates a Neonatology Nurse Practitioner degree is required.
