The

Graduate Vocational Nurse

position, under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse, the provides general nursing care to patients. This position must integrate company values into daily practice.

Essential Functions:Under supervision of an RN or LVN, the GVN provides quality patient care by collecting relevant data and information in accordance to established standards of care.Provides information to the Registered Nurse to assist in the development of an individualized plan of care for each patient.Participates in the coordination of care provided to the patient based on professional standards and protocols and according to patient needs; assist in modifications and providing direction for the continuity of care.Participates in evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions in relation to patient responses and seeks guidance and redirection when necessary.Reviews documentation and ensures all patient forms are complete and accurate.Reports to supervisor on patient care rendered, problems concerning patients' needs, and resolution to those needs.Assists in identification of patient's learning needs and reinforces self-care and other techniques.Appropriately designates applicable charges to individual patients using the hospital's established system.May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies, under appropriate supervision.Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff. Assesses the risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with appropriate and approved safety and Infection Prevention standards.Maintains regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule.Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.

Minimum Job Requirements

Minimum Education & Experience :High school diploma or GED equivalent required.Graduate of an accredited LVN program required.

Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Documentation:Must have Graduate Vocational Nurse (GVN) permit in Texas hospitals.Current CPR certification required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of and adherence to current nursing theory and practice and infection prevention standards of practice.Knowledge of accreditation standards to ensure adherence to all standards set forth by state and accrediting agencies of TJC and CMS.Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures, and utilizes proper policies, procedures, and guidelines in caring for patients.Demonstrates general computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and records management.Demonstrates critical thinking skills.Effective organizational and time management skills.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks.Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection prevention standards.Ability to work independently.Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality.Ability to work closely and professionally with others at all levels of the organization.

Physical Requirements Over the Course of a Shift:A significant amount of standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling, often for prolonged periods of time.Both gross and precise motor functions.Lifting/exerting of up to 50 lbs.Possible exposure to bodily fluids.Visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation of care.Acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment.
