FIRE MEDIC (Firefighter/Paramedic) salary is $49,144.26 annually, which includes F.L.S.A. Once Paramedic solo status is obtained, the salary increases to $52,278.46. Typically shift work: 24 hours on/48 hours off. Performs experienced protective service work controlling, extinguishing, and preventing fires, and performing Advanced Life Support (ALS) at emergency scenes. *All applicants must not have been users of tobacco products for at least one (1) year immediately preceding their application for employment as a firefighter with Brevard County Fire Rescue, and shall be required, as an absolute condition of continued employment, to refrain from smoking cigarettes, cigars, pipes, or use of any type of tobacco products of any kind (including smoking cessation products) at all times, whether on or off duty.* In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

REQUIREMENTS: Must possess on the date of written testing, a valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) card from an approved agency PLUS a valid State of Florida Paramedic certification and both certifications must be maintained during the term of employment. Applicants must possess on the date of written testing a Florida State Fire Fighter Certificate of Compliance or Letter of Completion from the State of Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. *Copies of all required certifications and licenses must be presented at the time of written test administration.* Applicants will be required to take and pass both a written fire skills and a practical medical skills test. Applicants will be required to perform and successfully complete the Brevard Physical Abilities Test (BPAT). Veterans of the United States Armed Forces, with an honorable discharge, entitled to Veteran's Preference under Florida Statute Chapter 295, must submit their applicable DD-214, valid military certification, and/ or military discharge papers to Human Resources by the date of written testing. Veteran's Preference points will be added to a passing written test score. Applicants must be able to successfully complete a criminal, driver's license, and personal background investigation conducted by Brevard County or another agency. Must be able to successfully pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check administered by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. Applicants must be able to successfully complete a physical examination, in accordance with the most current NFPA 1582 guidelines and be found Fit for Duty under those guidelines. *Information regarding the written test date, time, and location will be emailed to qualified applicants two (2) weeks prior to testing dates, which are currently scheduled for Friday, January 31, 2025 and Saturday, February 1, 2025.* The tentative hiring date for candidates who successfully complete all required pre-employment testing for this hiring process is Monday, March 31, 2025.
