POSITION SUMMARY:
A certified nurse-midwife (CNM) is responsible for performing physical examinations, utilizing diagnostic testing, making diagnoses, and managing the treatment of common episodic women's health problems. Midwifery care includes the management of primary health screening, health promotion, and the provision of care from adolescence through the lifespan as well as the neonatal period. This includes care related to preconception, pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum recovery, normal newborn recovery, infant feeding including human lactation, comprehensive gynecologic/reproductive/sexual health care, and post-menopausal care.
A CNM works in a variety of settings including clinics, ambulatory health centers, and hospitals. CNMs write orders and make rounds in hospital settings. Patient care may vary from setting to setting depending on the facility and the expertise of the CNM. CNMs perform procedures such as insertion of intrauterine pressure catheters, amniotomy, birth maneuvers, episiotomy, laceration repair, pudendal analgesia, newborn circumcision, and insertion of contraceptive devices.
This position requires rotation to different work sites and may require rotation to evening, night, weekend and holiday hours. This position may include on-call
hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provision of Midwifery care including the management of primary health screening, health promotion, and the provision of care from adolescence through the lifespan as well as the neonatal period. This includes care related to preconception, pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum recovery, normal newborn recovery, infant feeding including human lactation, comprehensive gynecologic/reproductive/sexual health care, and post-menopausal care.
Teaching nursing, midwifery and medical students and medical residents and other health professionals.
Research participation, scholarly activities and service.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher level administrator of a State university.
Responsible for teaching, service, and related activities.
May be responsible for research and/or academic advising and related activities.
May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Graduation from an academic nurse-midwifery program accredited by the Accreditation Commission of Midwifery Education. Certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board and certificate maintenance. Licensure by the State of Florida as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the nurse-midwifery category as outlined in Florida Statute 464, The Nurse Practice Act, and Florida Administrative Code, and
Chapter 64B9, Rules of the Board of Nursing.
Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties.
Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Instructor.
PREFERRED:
New graduates will be considered for employment after certification and licensure.
Candidates with experience are preferred, especially experience in full scope practice and tertiary level care (Level III birth unit and nursery). A broad range of experience with inpatient prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care is preferred.
