Job Title:
Certified Medical Assistant - Physician ServicesLocation:
Avenel, NJ 07001Schedule:
40 hours per week (8 hours per day, Monday - Friday)
Job Summary:The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for providing clinical care to select patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse or medical practitioner. The role also includes clerical office assistance to support efficient office operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Prepare exam and treatment rooms, ensuring all necessary supplies and instruments are ready.Assist patients during physician visits and examinations as directed.Take and record patients' vital signs in their medical charts.Understand the proper function and maintenance of specialized medical equipment.Perform EKGs, Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT), audiometry, Titmus tests, and other procedures after completing a performance evaluation checklist.Conduct urine drug screenings (UDS), breath alcohol testing (BAT), phlebotomy, and lab testing as needed.Maintain patient records, complete documentation as directed, and manage filing systems.Assist with billing and collections when necessary.Use computer software to manage office systems and maintain records.Ensure patient confidentiality and adhere to privacy protocols.Identify and respond to the needs of the patient population, including considerations for age, culture, language, and physical impairments (hearing, vision, etc.).Communicate effectively with patients, parents, and/or caregivers, considering their developmental, educational, and literacy levels.Perform other duties and projects as assigned.Comply with organizational competencies and behavioral standards.Must be able to lift a minimum of 5 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 10 lbs., and stand for at least 6 hours a day.
Required Skills & Experience:Strong communication skills.Ability to interact supportively with diverse populations.Capable of working in a fast-paced environment.Proficiency in computerized systems and data entry.
Education:Required:
High School diploma or equivalent (GED).Preferred:
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Certifications & Licensure (One of the following required):AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) certificationCertified Medical Assistant (CMA) from NHA, NCCT, AAMA, or AMCARegistered Medical Assistant (RMA) from AMT or NAHPNCMA (National Certified Medical Assistant)
