Position Summary:
Renders skilled emergency treatment to the critically ill or injured patient on emergency scenes or in medical facilities; and during transport to tertiary care facilities via helicopter.
* Maintains and presents a positive program image for internal and external customers, patient families, and visitors. Professional associations and relationships with referring agencies and facilities.
* Safety and Aviation Duties* Assures operations areas are secure and free of safety hazards during takeoffs and landings.
* Secures aircraft doors.
* Performs FAA safety briefings.
* Performs fire safety activities during start-ups and shutdowns.
* Reports safety concerns per UHS and Aviation Vendor Policies.
* Demonstrates competent performance of medical duties.* Provides direct patient care using a process of assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and reevaluation within parameters of program medical protocols and standing orders.
* Demonstrates use of appropriate medical skills, equipment, and procedures in all patient care activities.
* Performs inspection, re-supply, and cleaning/disinfection of program transport vehicles on a daily or as needed basis.
* Accurately documents assessments, diagnosis, and interventions in departmental patient records, written and electronic. Reports findings and actions to receiving agencies or/and facilities.
* Attends quarterly Simulation Labs.
* Meets the requirements of a paramedic at UTMC.* Maintains Paramedic license per State of Tennessee, North Carolina, and Kentucky EMS Air Ambulance Rules
* Maintains National Registry Paramedic Certification
* Maintains provider status in ACLS, NRP, ITLS or PHTLS, and PALS.
* Maintains advanced certification per Tennessee, Kentucky, and North Carolina State EMS Air Ambulance Rules
Position Qualification:
Associates degree (AA) or equivalent from two year college or technical school required.
Minimum three years experience as a Paramedic in an active city or county 911 EMS system or municipal Fire/EMS department
Previous flight experience is preferred
ACLS, BTLS/PHTLS, PALS, Licensure as a Paramedic in the state of Tennessee.
