Shift Details: two 9AM to 9PM shifts per week and every third weekend
Department: Emergency Department | Reports To: RN Manager-ER

Summary:
Performs technical procedures as delegated, including establishing IV access, collecting specimens, providing wound care, and transporting patients. May perform ECGs and vital statistics/telemetry monitoring. Assists physicians and nurses with performing medical procedures, including examinations, minor surgical interventions, orthopedic treatment, and resuscitation.
Reports abnormal assessment findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to medical/nursing staff. Assists with patient flow and keeping patient rooms clean, stocked, and orderly. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age/diversity of population served for the following age groups:
☒ Neonate (birth - 28 days)
☒ Infant (29 days - less than 1 year)
☒ Pediatric/Child (1 year - 12 years)
☒ Adolescent (12 years - 18 years)
☒ Adult (18 years - 65 years)
☒ Geriatric (over 65 years)
* Incorporates cultural considerations in the provisions of care. * Knowledge of growth and developmental stages. * Considers life changes/effects on health beliefs and behaviors. * Provides necessary safety measures. * Provides information and involves family/caregiver in decision making.
2. Competent use of the medical process to assess priorities, contribute to, and adapt to the interdisciplinary plan of care to ensure quality of care is delivered.
* Performs triage assessment in accordance with specific unit standards. * Identifies discharge planning needs of patient/family/significant other on admission. * Recognizes changes in patient status based on interpretation of assessments and informs RN/ED Providers
3. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to assist with the medical plan of care, medical interventions and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient in collaboration with RN and ED Provider.
* Demonstrates knowledge of hospital policies and procedures for administering, verifying, and recording medications. * Demonstrates knowledge of commonly used meds: action, dose, and side effects. * Functions successfully in an emergency situation. Maintains professional composure and confidence during stressful situations. * Identifies patient care problems and communicates them to RN or Provider * Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Emergency Department as defined in the scope of practice, to assure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed. * Performs clerical functions including charges, logs, supply orders, answering phone and other duties as assigned * This includes but is not limited to the age of the patient served. * Recognizes life threatening arrhythmias * Performs and documents Triage on patients presenting to ED
4. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
* Demonstrates willingness to identify and/or assume activities relative to the developmental needs of the unit and the nursing department * Demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of the unit and hospital. * Demonstrates willingness to float to other units as needed. * Participates in shared leadership. * Accepts assignment as a coach for new staff. * Accepts responsibility for mentoring healthcare students.
Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.

EDUCATION:
GED or High School Diploma preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current Paramedic license from the State of Nebraska required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within one full month from date of hire required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within one year from date of hire required.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) obtained within one year from date of hire required.
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) obtained within six full months from date of hire required.
Previous Experience Requirements:
Previous clinical experience preferred.
Skills/Knowledge Requirements:
Language Skills - Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language required.
