AIDE

QUALIFICATIONS:1. Graduate from High School or equivalent2. Must be in good health and capable of fulfilling assigned duties and tasks.3. Must be able and willing to learn new aspects of the job.4. Must possess effective human relation skills.5. Must have 48 college credits from an accredited college and/or two year degree and/or the ability to pass the state paraprofessional exam.

REPORTS TO:

Supervising Teacher and Principal

JOB GOAL:

To assist the teacher to administer teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students, if assigned duties.2. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by the teacher.

Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instruction purposes.Helps student's utilize equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and story-telling, if assigned duties.10. Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.

Assists students in the library or media center, if assigned duties.Checks notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher.Assists with breakfast, lunch, snack, and cleanup routines when appropriate.Assists with lifting, wash-up and toilet routines if applicable on any IEP's.Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.Maintains the same high level or ethical behavior or confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.Aides may be assigned to specific areas such as Alternative classroom, Preschool, In School Suspension, Title, Special Education, Regular classroom, Library and health areas.Special Education children in Special Education class and resource room as assigned.Offers input into the development of educational individual plans for students as requested.Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year will be established by the Oglala Lakota County School Board.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Principal.

All employees in contact with children must submit to and pass the required criminal background check and drug test.
