DC DOH - Pharmacy Technician Registration requiredPTCB - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or equivalent national certification within 180 Days requiredConsistently fulfills all the responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician I.Under the supervision of the licensed Pharmacist, prepares oral, topical, and specific parenteral medications for dispensing to patients, including the selection, labeling, and packaging of appropriate pharmaceuticals, and filling of medication carts.Enters physician orders into the hospital computer system to update/edit patient profilesand charges.Assists patients, nurses, physicians, and others with medication order requests and pharmacy related needs.Monitors stock inventory levels and medication expiration dates for pharmacy areas and replenishes medications as needed.
Conducts monthly/periodic inspections of patient care/department areas.Fills and replaces medications in the automated medication dispensing machines and transports to appropriate nursing unit(s).Prepares mini bags, large volume parenterals, mini bag plus, etc. using aseptic techniques, including STATS.Delivers and retrieves medications, including narcotics, and pharmacy supplies to/from patient care and satellite pharmacy areas.Compounds products in bulk, or per individual order, and prepares private stock orders and individual unit-of-use packaging, when not otherwise available.Completes and maintains controlled substance inventory log/records.Participates in orienting new Pharmacy Technicians to department operations and thecomputer system.Maintains clean and orderly workstations.
