About the job
Responsible for all things tax, including tax compliance, income tax provision, indirect taxes and special projects. This role will also be responsible for the analysis and review of accounting activity and transactions to determine proper tax treatment, research and respond to ad hoc questions from internal team members. You are passionate about tax problem solving and can manage both outside tax providers and the Indirect Tax Specialist. No travel is required. This position has one direct report and reports to the Senior Vice President of Finance/Chief Accounting Officer. The normal shift is Monday through Thursday in office, Fridays are work from home days!
Essential Functions
Facilitate the federal and state income tax compliance by gathering data and managing an accounting firm in preparation of tax returns
Complete tax account roll forwards and reconciliations
Prepare the quarterly and year-end income tax provision and disclosures in accordance with ASC 740, including documentation and memos
Manage/review sales and use tax filings
Manage/review excise tax filings
Coordinate with the external auditor regarding the tax provision for the financial statement audit
Develop and maintain tax workpapers, focusing on improving processes and efficiency
Research and document tax technical issues
Monitor tax law changes and determine the impact to the company
Manage tax examinations
Maintain a strong SOX control environment and ensure high quality external audit workpapers
Collaborate closely with accounting, financial reporting and FP&A staff
Manage/review non-income tax filings such as franchise and property tax
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in accounting or finance
Minimum 10 years of corporate tax experience with public accounting experience preferred
CPA required
Detailed knowledge of ASC 740
Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
Proactive communicator and creative problem solver who is curious and resilient. Pulls on all threads and is not willing to accept the status quo. Recommendations and suggestions are fact and data based
Responsible for being knowledgeable of and acting in strict accordance with the requirements of all relevant laws, regulations, and Company policies, including, among other areas, Food and Drug Administration regulations
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment desirable
