Ocean conservation is critical to reducing the impacts of climate change and saving the livelihoods of fishers, their families, and their communities.Founded in 2001, Oceana is the world’s largest ocean advocacy organization focused solely on restoring the resilience, diversity, and abundance of marine ecosystems to ensure that our oceans are a significant source of wild-caught fish that can help feed the world. We achieve measurable change by conducting specific, science-based campaigns with fixed deadlines and articulated goals. Our campaigns extend to countries that govern nearly one-third of the world’s wild-caught fish, including Belize, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, the United States, the UK, and the countries in the European Union.The primary functions of the Global Senior Director of Finance are to ensure the integrity of Oceana’s finances, employ sound financial practices, develop and deploy all necessary systems, policies, and procedures, provide information and data to leadership, and provide effective management to the Finance & Administration team. Extensive systems experience maximizing their capabilities to improve efficiency and produce needed information is a key success factor for this role. The Senior Director role requires extensive management and mentoring experience in accounting, grants, budgeting, and financial analysis.Candidates for this position must thrive in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing needs. They must be able to function as both a strategic and hands-on lead, maneuvering effectively between high-level executive advisory and hands-on management. An excellent track record in financial and risk management is essential, along with the ability to rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Experience creating a culture of fiscal management and responsibility at all levels of an organization is crucial. A leader who ensures a productive working environment and confidently leads, coaches, and motivates employees to meet organizational goals is sought.Strong candidates will have a graduate degree in Finance and Accounting as well as a CPA. At least ten plus (10+) years of progressive financial management experience and seven plus (7+) years of supervisory experience are required. Additionally, external auditor experience is necessary, and Workday Adaptive Planning experience is highly desirable.The salary range for this position is $170,000-200,000 annually.Oceana values a diverse workforce and welcomes people different from each other in many ways, including characteristics such as race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, and national origin.
