Job Summary

The Senior Accountant will perform several duties including responsibility for general ledger management and analysis, financial reporting and analysis, and document management. In addition, this position will be the primary backup for payroll functions.Role Specific Primary Essential Duties:Reconciliation of assigned balance sheet and expense accountsResponsible for the detailed reconciliation of various balance sheets and expense accounts to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards. Specific accounts include:Lease assets and liabilities : Maintain accurate records of lease agreements, including the proper recognition of lease assets and liabilities in accordance with relevant accounting standards (e.g. ASC 842).Lease expense : Review and track the proper allocation of lease-related expenses, including rent maintenance costs, and any other lease-related financial impacts.Lease allocations : Ensure lease costs are properly allocated across departments in accordance with organizational policies and cost allocation methods.Track sublease activity : Monitor and record all sublease transactions, ensuring that all sublease income and corresponding lease obligations are correctly accounted for.Restricted funds : Reconcile accounts related to restricted funds, ensuring that these funds are properly tracked, reported, and used in accordance with funder restrictions and relevant accounting standards. Collaborate with other departments to gather and validate the financial information.Assist with the monthly financial reporting and financial analysisAid in the preparation and presentation of monthly financial reports, ensuring that the reports are timely, accurate, and in compliance with accounting principles. This includes:

Analyzing and explaining significant variances between actual results and budgeted/forecasted amounts.Collaborating with other departments to gather and validate financial information.Assisting in the preparation of monthly internal financial reports for management review.Assisting in the preparation of key financial metricsAnalyzing financial data to support strategic decision-making

Assist with financial planning and analysis (FP&A).Support the FP&A process, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning. Responsibilities may include:

Assisting with the creation and maintenance of financial forecasts and budget models.Providing support for financial projections and analysis related to strategic planning.Preparation of schedules and/or materials support presentation to management.

Assist with year-end auditProviding auditors with necessary financial documentation, schedules, and explanations of account balances.Preparation of audit schedules for financial statement review.Ensuring that all accounting records are complete and accurate for audit purposes.Assist with the preparation of 990s.

Help prepare the organization's Form 990 for submission to the IRS timely filing with the IRS. Including:Gathering and reviewing financial data needed for the 990 forms.Coordinating with other departments to ensure accurate reporting of financial information required on the form.Assist with UDS reporting.

Support the timely preparation of the UDS schedules. Duties include reviewing the financial data for consistency and accuracy before submission.Assist with the preparation of the indirect cost proposals.

Duties include preparing schedules, narratives, and supporting documentation required for the proposal submission.Assist with documenting policies and procedures.

Assist in the development of accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistent and efficient financial practices. Duties include:Updating existing procedures to reflect current best practices, accounting standards, or regulatory requirements.Drafting new procedures ensuring alignment with organizational processes and controls.Review existing controls to ensure they remain effective and compliant with regulations.Other duties as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Controller or senior management. These may include:Providing support on ad hoc financial analysis and/or projects.Assisting with system implementation or improvements related to accounting functions.Support cross-functional initiatives that require financial expertise.Serve as a backup for payroll, reconciliations, allocations, accounts receivable, and payable functionsRole Specific- Knowledge, Skills, and Talents Required:

Solid understanding of Accounting Principles.Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and provide meaningful analysis.Effective time management capabilities and ability to multi-task.Attention to detail.Extensive experience in Microsoft Excel.Experience with accounting software programs and/or automated accounting systemsAbility to develop and maintain close and constructive professional relationships at all levels within the organization.Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently.Education and Experience Required:

3-5 years of progressive accounting experience at a staff level; senior-level experience required.Bachelor's degree required.Non-profit experience is preferredExperience working with Blackbaud Financial Edge is a plus.
