Founded in 1982, the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law’s staff and pro bono volunteers provide free family law education and legal services to low-income individuals in Los Angeles County, including assistance with dissolution, child custody and support, visitation, parentage, and domestic violence restraining orders.About this job
The Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law seeks a knowledgeable, organized, and personable attorney who loves lawyering and working with people, to join our team as a Staff Attorney. Along with fellow colleagues, this individual will provide direct legal assistance to low-income clients, many of whom are survivors of domestic violence.Key Features of this Job:• Handle Family Law Caseload: The Staff Attorney is expected to professionally and expeditiously resolve a continuous high volume of diverse and complex cases with limited resources. Casework may include any aspect of a family law case, from initial papers to court hearings.• Manage, Develop, and Train Volunteers to Handle Cases: The Staff Attorney works with a large number of volunteer lawyers and law students to provide direct legal assistance and resolution of cases.• Provide Community Outreach and Education: The Staff Attorney travels to locations throughout Los Angeles County to provide direct legal assistance and education, and to engage in public presentations.Qualifications
Essential Job Qualifications:• Member in good standing CA bar;• No family law experience is required, but one or more years of experience is preferred;• Strong writing and public speaking skills;• Excellent analytic and organizational abilities;• Demonstrated ability to work well with others;• Capacity to travel locally and work some weekends and evenings as needed.Start Date: January 1, 2025Position: Full-time, ExemptSalary and Benefits: $65,000 to $80,000 commensurate with experience. Benefits include: medical, dental, and vision insurance; voluntary employee retirement plan; paid vacation and holiday leave; professional development opportunities.Location: Office in Los Angeles/KoreatownTo apply
