This position provides legal advice, information, and risk management strategies to WPS’ People Team and other business units on a wide range of employment and employee benefits issues affecting the corporation and its subsidiaries. This role works with the People Team and other executives and provides oversight and leadership to other Legal staff on projects and serves as lead legal counsel on various enterprise projects. In addition, this Associate General Counsel position will:

Provide guidance to executives on a wide range of legal issues, including employment, labor, and litigation issues.

Advise on legal issues impacting WPS’ employee benefit programs.

Consult regarding potential litigation matters and manage litigation cases along with related insurance coverage issues.

Draft agreements and review internal policies and procedures.

Work closely with members of the WPS People Team:

Advise senior management and other internal stakeholders of the corporation and its subsidiaries on various legal and compliance issues by utilizing legal expertise to assess risk and to provide effective and appropriate recommendations regarding such risks.

Perform legal research and analysis on various legal issues affecting the corporation and its subsidiaries.

Complete special projects and/or provide guidance on other corporate projects and initiatives as needed, including new business ventures and strategies.

Your Team:

You will report directly to the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel and work with a collaborative team of talented attorneys. Currently, the legal team is comprised of 6 members.

Minimum Qualifications

Law degree from an accredited law school.

Must be admitted, active, and in good standing with the State Bar of Wisconsin (or with another state bar and registered, or eligible to register, as in-house counsel with the State Bar of Wisconsin).

Flexibility to travel and attend in-person meetings with other management and legal personnel.

5 or more years as an attorney practicing in a law firm and/or corporate law department.

Preferred Qualifications

Litigation or litigation management experience.

ERISA consulting or claims experience.

Insurance coverage experience.

Federal government contracting experience.

Salary Range

$140,000-$210,000 annually

The base pay offered for this position may vary within the posted range based on your job-related knowledge, skills and experience.

Work Location

This role is open to remote work in the following approved states with the understanding that there will be quarterly travel requirements into our Madison, WI corporate location:Wisconsin and Illinois

Remote Worker Requirements

For remote position, employee is required to meet remote worker requirements, including a designated work station, a wired (Ethernet) connection to the network, and a minimum of 10Mbps downstream connection with at least 1Mbps upstream.
