ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties or audits may be assigned such as audits requiring a physical visit to the policyholder’s location in proximity to the Premium Consultant’s location.
Perform job duties in accordance with MEM’s mission, vision and values.Conduct premium audits virtually on prospective and existing policyholders for the purpose of gathering related data to analyze proper risk classification, premium basis, and scope of operations.Must be able to communicate effectively through the interview process and perform research of the records provided as well as internet-based research to analyze proper risk classifications and scope of operations.Virtually obtain financial documentation from policyholders to prepare detailed audit worksheets, providing a clear trail of investigation for future reference.Use available audit software to prepare required summary statement; and reconcile worksheet to Federal 941’s or State Unemployment quarterly tax reports. Use source documents to identify employees and the use of subcontractors. Identify, analyze, and document changes or unusual exposures that may have an impact on the premium. Create reports for distribution to Underwriting which clarify covered risk and potential exposures as well as identification of changes.Educate policyholders through audit result discussions regarding basic insurance principles. Facilitate financial records compilation to aid in satisfactory policyholder reporting as well as proper maintenance of wage division.Knowledgeable on workers’ compensation laws that affect account’s classification and premium.Interpret and apply premium audit standards to the work product as documented in the National Council of Compensation Insurance (NCCI) Basic Manual and Scopes Manual.Continue professional growth and development through self-study on specialized or procedural changes regarding premium audit as a result of various state determinations and NCCI rulings and updates.Complete technical, professional, and insurance training programs as required or requested.Keep informed and knowledgeable of company's policies on Underwriting, Premium Consultation, Safety & Risk Services, Claims, and Legal.Alert manager, underwriting teams, and affected department as to issues and problems including fraud, within assigned area of responsibility; refer matters beyond limits of authority and expertise to manager for direction.Complete administrative reports such as production reports, expense reports, mileage reports and other management requested reports. Utilize Microsoft Outlook calendar to enter planned activities.Use Webex video conferencing and/or phone call to conduct interviews and hold discussions with policyholders.Follow MEM Corporate safety standards and ensure proper care and usage of equipment and company materials.Initiate and perform premium audits and consultations efficiently and independently to manage workload in a manner consistent with department production, time, and quality standards.EDUCATION:A bachelor’s degree preferably in accounting, finance, or business management and/or other degreed program. If degreed program does not have a strong accounting background, applicant must be willing to pursue courses related to accounting or insurance field as needed.
DESIGNATIONS / CERTIFICATIONS:APA 91/92 preferred, but not required.
EXPERIENCE:Five plus years of professional level work experience in the area of auditing workers’ compensation or work equivalent with complex accounts.
