Job Description

The Technology Advancement Office (TAO) partners with faculty, companies, entrepreneurs, and investors to bring innovations to market. TAO is part of MU's Division of Research, Innovation & Impact and is currently looking for a Senior Administrative Consultant.

The Senior Administrative Consultant, Engineering, is responsible for leading efforts relating to the evaluation, protection, marketing, and licensing of engineering technology and inventions developed at the University of Missouri. This position will also assist in establishing productive R&D relationships with the corporate sector and translate University science and technology assets into economic development for the State of Missouri.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Invention Disclosure Management:

Manage the invention disclosure process, including outreach efforts within MU to educate faculty and staff on technology transfer and to stimulate the submission of disclosures.

Lead intellectual property (IP) efforts, including:

Evaluate invention disclosures for potential IP (patents, copyright, tangible research, etc.).

Formulate and execute intellectual property strategies.

Select patent attorney and manage patent prosecution, including reviewing attorney work products, such as draft patent applications and office actions.

Lead marketing efforts, including:

Assess market opportunity and develop recommendations.

Develop and execute marketing strategy.

Develop marketing materials.

Lead licensing efforts for engineering IP, including:

Negotiate agreements, including license agreements, option agreements, collaboration agreements, inter-institutional agreements, NDAs, MTAs, and others as needed.

Management of licensee compliance and long-term relationship.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders in the local ecosystem, including MU faculty, staff, and administration, intellectual property law firms, and entrepreneurial resources (angel investors, venture capital, start-up incubators, etc.).

Successful candidates will have exceptional organizational and time management skills. They must demonstrate collaboration, communication, critical thinking, mindfulness, growth mindset, and fortitude. Additionally, confidentiality, integrity, and a commitment to the university’s values are essential.

Shift

Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm

Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

A Ph.D. degree in a relevant Engineering discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $78,562 - $120,078

Grade: GGS-013
