Physician Affiliate Group of New York, P.C. (PAGNY) , a multispecialty medical practice group, staffs several municipal hospitals and clinics within New York City through an affiliation agreement with NYC Health + Hospitals. PAGNY’s corporate staff provides administrative, practice management and human resources services in support of its more than 3000 clinical providers.The Assistant General Counsel, as part of PAGNY’s Office of the General Counsel, is responsible for analyzing, managing, and advising on labor and employment matters for the organization and ensuring compliance with PAGNY’s obligations under various collective bargaining agreements and the affiliation agreement with the NYC Health + Hospitals.Opportunity Details:
Manage legal affairs related to labor and employment issues including litigation, arbitration, and ensuring compliance with all applicable contractual, statutory and regulatory requirements.Provide advice and counsel regarding applicable collective bargaining agreements and engage union representatives to negotiate and address matters related to the CBAs.Represent the organization in state and federal court, before administrative tribunals and governmental bodies, in labor negotiations and in healthcare forums.Draft documents related to the collective bargaining agreements, memoranda of understanding, position statements, and various corporate related documents.Supervise/monitor the activities of outside counsel.Develop and present in-house training programs in conjunction with the labor relations team.Provide leadership, guidance, and support to promote compliance with applicable laws and regulations and to mitigate risk and liability.Qualifications
Law Degree from an accredited law school.Licensed and registered to practice law in New York State.Six or more years of relevant, progressive experience as a practicing lawyer.Experience working for unionized organizations required; healthcare experience strongly preferred.Labor and Employment litigation/arbitration experience and negotiation skills required.Labor law knowledge and experience with applicable federal and state laws and regulations required.Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision and address a variety of legal issues.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.5 days per week on site required.Ideal candidate will be a quick study; able to think strategically while also being detail-oriented; work well under pressure and able to juggle multiple priorities; have excellent interpersonal, speaking and writing skills; a strong academic background; excellent analytical and advising skills; and demonstrated judgment and discretion.
