BENEFITS CONSULTANT (Retirement) or SR. BENEFITS CONSULTANT (Retirement)

Position Summary
Under general supervision from the Manager of Benefits, the incumbent is responsible for administration and maintenance of the University’s insurance and retirement programs. These programs include, but are not limited to, health, life, other voluntary insurance plans, TRSL, ORP, LASERS, and voluntary supplemental retirement plans.
Duties and Responsibilities
Consulting & Customer Service
Works with benefit vendors, state retirement system offices, the Office of Group Benefits, and LSU A&M’s Benefits Office to resolve benefit issues in a timely manner.
Effectively collaborates with Payroll, Accounts Receivable, and other internal departments to resolve enrollment and invoicing issues.
Consults surviving dependents upon death of employee.
Consults employee on the exit process.
Conducts training for new and existing employees. Presents, organizes, and coordinates open enrollment, resident orientation, new hire orientations, and effectively communicates benefit changes to all faculty and staff.
Insurance & Retirement Maintenance
Consults employees with medical premiums, COBRA, supplemental benefits.
Ensures benefit enrollments and deductions are entered timely, and audited for accuracy.
Reviews Qualifying Life Events, terminations, and new hires status for one-time deductions. Performs calculations for one-time deductions for all medical and retirement adjustments for accounts payable and payroll.
Monitors reports and processes coverage cancellations for over age dependents.
Maintains retirement enrollments in state retirement and HCM systems. Coordinates tax status changes for Residents who elect Deferred Compensation with HR Operations.
Runs and reviews reports to identify changes in employment status and corrections needed. Takes appropriate action to correct benefit and retirement plan status.
Coordinates regular, disability, and Deferred Retirement Option (DROP) retirement enrollments.
Serves as liaison with state retirement agencies.
Monitors Medicare eligibility and coordinates Medicare enrollment.
Coordinates billing with Accounting Services for retirees.
Maintains leave plan enrollments.
Participates in insurance enrollment data entry during peak processing times.
Affordable Care Act Compliance and Administration
Monitors change in full-time equivalent to ensure coverage is extended to employees.
Audits ACA entries and error report in PeopleSoft and works to resolve errors. Serves as backup for monthly ACA entries.
Runs ACA report quarterly and updates the PeopleSoft Panel.
Submits 1094-C and 1095-C to the Assistant Director to upload to the IRS website annually.
HCM System Support/Auditing
Participates in system testing for software upgrades, patches and releases.
Works closely with IT Development Team and Support Team regarding testing new benefits, annual termination of Residents, annual enrollment, and 834 files.
Monitors Nightly Audit reports and ensures appropriate and timely corrective action.
Performs periodic data entry audits to verify accuracy and to identify any issues.
Troubleshooting

Education and Work Experience
Bachelor's Degree and Benefits Consultant: three years; Sr. Benefits Consultant: Five years with two in the functional specialty of retirement. An Associate’s degree or high school diploma and seven (7) years’ experience in human resources may substitute for a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of related human resources.
