General Counsel

to join its team in Columbia, SC. The ideal candidate will possess over eight years of experience in mortgage foreclosure and collections, demonstrating a robust understanding of creditor's rights. This role demands a proactive professional who is adept at handling a significant caseload and fostering strong relationships within the legal community.Duties:Manage a substantial volume of mortgage foreclosure and collections cases within the realm of creditor's rights.Provide legal guidance on discovery practices, depositions, and conflict resolution.Prepare and present cases in court, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor and partner.Collaborate with internal teams to enhance the firm's presence in the industry and contribute to its growth.Stay informed on changes in laws and regulations, particularly regarding TILA, RESPA, FDCPA, and the Bankruptcy Code.Demonstrate leadership by mentoring junior attorneys and staff, promoting a culture of excellence.Handle appellate work as necessary and prepare legal documents and briefs.Requirements:Must be a member in good standing of the South Carolina State Bar.Licensed (or capable of obtaining a license promptly) in the SC federal district and bankruptcy courts.A minimum of 8 years of experience in mortgage foreclosure and collections.Proven ability to manage a significant caseload effectively.Familiarity with the South Carolina legal system and various litigation practices.Education:Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.Certifications:Active membership in the South Carolina State Bar is required.Additional Bar licenses are considered a plus.Skills:Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Proficiency in legal research and analysis.Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.High level of emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills.Strong problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking.
