ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant, Health and Safety Services to join our Safety Services team in Irvine, CA. In this role, you will provide project management and technical assistance for clients locally, nationally, and internationally, as well as management of existing staff and mentoring of junior staff identified as candidates for training and development as a CSST. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as Certified Asbestos Abatement Program Manager on assigned site investigation, remediation, and decommissioning/decontamination/demolition environmental construction projects and implement site-specific Health & Safety Plans.
Development of sampling plans, management of sample collection and documentation, field sampling, report development and review, and client interfacing.
Ensure appropriate level of PPE is available and being used as required, as well as proper maintenance and sanitation of PPE.
Collect asbestos samples and oversee asbestos abatement contractors.
Verify communication systems are in place.
Monitor conformance with safety and emergency procedures.
Conduct daily safety briefings with the project field team.
Develop and review sampling plans.
Monitor site conditions for asbestos clearance sampling.
Exercise the authority to stop work upon determination of an imminent safety hazard or potentially dangerous situation.
Exercise the authority to proceed with work after a stop-work order after receiving verification from Partner-in-Charge or H&S team.
Conduct behavior-based safety observations and coordinate internal Event Communication System activity.
Collect and evaluate observations by others (through PSC cards if the site uses them).
Maintain records and management of sample collection and documentation.
Serve as a Principal Occupational Health and Safety Consultant providing project management and technical assistance for clients, responsible for successfully selling and consulting on a range of health and safety management projects.
Specifically:
Conduct inspections, investigations, safety observations, job safety analysis and risk assessments and resulting mitigation activities that will identify, evaluate and control unsafe health & safety hazards or risks.
Perform Safety risk assessments and implement effective programs, procedures, practices and standard work to ensure regulatory compliance and protect employees.
Support safety education/teaching in an R&D and industrial environment, while assuring safe operating procedures are implemented and followed.
Investigate, compile and develop investigative reports on any incident/accident that may occur; and ensure action items are adequately complete.
Engage with local regulatory agencies on topics including hazardous material management, abatement and demolition, building code, fire code and building/environmental permits.
Implement innovative H&S programs and strategies in the areas of building science, industrial hygiene, safety management systems, process safety and risk management.
Support client’s ability to identify programmatic needs around environmental, health and safety.
Manage a variety of tasks to achieve scope, budget and schedule targets while ensuring we meet and exceed client’s expectations on deliverables.
Build client relationships and nurture repeat business by continuously striving to exceed client expectations.
Delegate to and work with the project team to effectively implement assignments for client.
Complete and maintain required training, including:
California Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Certified Asbestos Consultant Certification.
California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Lead Inspector / Assessor Certification.
ERM Field Safety Officer Training Modules.
40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER.
8-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Supervisor.
CPR/First Aid.
Bloodborne pathogens.
Confined space and excavation awareness.
Emergency preparedness.
Hazard recognition and job hazard analysis.
Incident investigation and root cause analysis.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Safety, Occupational Health, or related science degree or related discipline.
6+ years of relevant experience in working with significant private-sector clients.
Extensive experience in permitting, agency coordination, risk assessments, construction safety, and compliance assurance.
Solid understanding of the relevant local, state and federal regulations and how they apply to specific industries.
Experience in consultation, providing supervision, senior review and strategic direction on projects.
Management and oversight of staff and complex deliverables.
Responsible for formal agency filings, submittals, and certifications on behalf of clients.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple & technically complex assignments concurrently.
Ability to effectively participate in cross-functional teams in a fast-paced and diverse environment.
Ability to effectively communicate and send clear, concise, and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to take action when changes in the working environment occur and escalate concerns as-needed.
Ability to deal with ambiguity from clients, regulators, and other stakeholders.
Will require short duration travel within California, as well as other states throughout the US as required.
CAC Certification.
CDPH Lead Inspector / Assessor.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
10+ years of relevant experience in working with significant private-sector clients.
CIH, CSP, or ASP are preferred.
For the Principal Consultant, Health and Safety Services position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $132,050 – $158,256. An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.
