Steps to Apply:
Before you apply for a job, please complete all of the required steps for the position you are seeking.
Minimum age of 20 years is required for this position.
Step 1: Register for the Para Education Course (Required for Special Education/SWE positions only)
To become an eligible applicant, you must first participate in our district's SWE para education course. This is a 4-week commitment to attend an intensive training program conducted by our Special Education (Students With Exceptionalities) educators. The classes are held in the evening in both Mandeville and Slidell with a course fee of $65. Once hired with our school system, you may request reimbursement for this fee.
Upcoming Para Course Information
Step 2: Take the Para Pro Assessment or Obtain College Transcripts (Required for all positions)
In addition to the district's para course, one of the following educational requirements is needed to work as a paraprofessional in our school system:
* High School Diploma or equivalent AND ParaPro Assessment Test (minimum score of 450)
OR* Associate Degree (or higher)
OR* 2 years of college (48 semester hours minimum to include: English Composition 3 hours, English/Reading 6 hours, and Mathematics 6 hours)
The Para Pro Assessment is a general aptitude test that measures reading, writing, and math competencies. Registration information, study guides, and test information can be accessed at www.ets.org/parapro/test-takers/about.html. Once hired as a paraprofessional, we will reimburse the cost of this test.
If you have an associate's degree or higher or earned a minimum of 48 hours in college in the required areas, you don't have to take the Para Pro Assessment but will need to have your college transcripts available before you apply.
Step 3: Apply Online for Available Positions (Required for all positions)
After you have completed the Para Education Course and met the education requirements (college transcript or Para Pro Assessment), you may view available positions and apply online at www.stpsb.org/paravacancies.
Our school system offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Credit will be given for prior experience as a paraprofessional in Louisiana public and non-public schools and accredited out-of-state public schools.
