The company's mission is centered around disrupting the industry by creating an exceptional workplace for its employees while delivering high-quality, customized solutions to its diverse customer base.Job DescriptionOversee the sales and use tax process, including VAT (Canada), from registration through the filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual returns.Manage tax rules within Avalara filing software, ensuring accurate assessment and collection of sales and use taxes from customers.Serve as the primary liaison between the tax department and IT to ensure accurate data feeds from priority software to Avalara, and that invoices are correctly taxed.Oversee the resale and exemption certificate process.Assist with month-end closing activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis as assigned.Lead the annual audit process related to tax matters, providing auditors with reconciliations and financial data.Manage local or state sales and use tax audits, as well as customer tax audits.Respond promptly to notices from state taxing authorities.Collaborate with the tax accounting firm on matters related to income, franchise taxes, securing R&D credits, and other incentives to reduce taxable income.Work with HR and licensing teams to ensure proper registration in states and counties where the company conducts business.Support the integration of acquisitions from a tax perspective.Develop and maintain documentation to improve internal control processes.Undertake special projects as needed to support departmental and company-wide goals.Communicate complex tax concepts effectively to non-tax professionals.Supervise and mentor one direct report.
