Title: Director of Security
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:
Under executive direction, the Director of Security is responsible for the overall security of Park District facilities and property, and oversees the day-to-day activities of the Chicago Park District Security staff. Responsible for the execution of District-wide security operations, developing best-practice safety strategy initiatives, and implementing programs to improve the security of park patrons, personnel and property. Performs other related duties as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:Manages district-wide coordination of security personnel resources.Develops and implements security policies and procedures for the Park District.Devises plans and establishes goals and objectives for the department.Analyzes and mines safety data and produces ongoing reports measuring safety standards Manages, supervises and strategically deploys security personnel at Chicago Park District facilities and property.Monitors efficient and effective security operations for successful execution.Evaluates current Park District policies and practices, and makes recommendations for improvement.Leads safety coordination efforts with external partners and communities and represents the District on all safety strategy meetings. Establishes and maintains active working relationships with Chicago Police Department and other community safety entities to maximize coordination and collaboration.Acts as a liaison to investigating agencies on security and incident investigations.Serves as a resident expert on security matters.Directs the coordination and preparation of the department's annual budget.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university is recommended with a bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice or a directly related field, and ten or more years of law enforcement experience, of which, at least five years of supervisory work or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience. Valid Illinois Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong administrative and managerial skills overseeing a sizeable staff and multi-million dollar department budget. Good knowledge of the principles and practices governing law enforcement/security work. Strong knowledge of police methods, controlling laws, ordinances, agency rules and regulations. Ability to coordinate and communicate with other public safety departments. Strong leadership skills. Strong oral/written communication and team building skills. Ability to assess data and develop safety policy and reports. Working knowledge of technology applications such as Microsoft Office, Power Point, and financial systems.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
High-stress environment; on-call responsibilities. Operate vehicles/drive motorized equipment. Outdoor weather exposure. Requires use of personal protective equipment. Perform tasks that involve use of hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching, walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting. Performs lifting tasks up to 25 pounds.
