Ten Speed Press is currently seeking a Senior Designer to design books in our new children’s publishing program. This is an amazing opportunity to contribute to the design vision of a new imprint!

This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities, we will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our office in Emeryville, CA.
Responsibilities:
• Contributes to the design vision for the Ten Speed Press kids’ publishing program. • Explores, iterates, and actualizes own design ideas and those of others, from early concepts to finished books.
• Creates cover and interior designs for fiction and non-fiction, including picture books, young readers’ editions, and kids’ cookbooks. • Designs select lifestyles and gift books for all ages as needed. • Collaborates with art directors, editors, authors, and freelance art teams throughout the book creation process. • Researches creative talent in the children’s book industry. • Hires and briefs freelance illustrators and track art status on multiple deadlines.
• Supports production managers in creating and adhering to book schedules, organizing color proofing, and determining and testing cover production effects.
• Works with production editors and managers to systematically track files through multiple rounds of improvements and corrections.
Requirements:
• Must be passionate about kids’ books
• Minimum 4 years of publishing experience, specifically in the children’s space preferred
• Excellent design skills with an eye for dynamic and kid-friendly visuals and typography
• Exceptional communication skills
• Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently with a high level of organization and attention to detail
• Eagerness to help grow a new children’s book program
The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $73,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
