Job Summary
:
The Material Project / Process Improvement Leader is responsible for driving transformational change through the use of Lean and Six Sigma tools within the factory. This position is expected to lead efforts to compress cycle times, improve inventory turns, improve service and reduce waste in all Materials processes. In addition, this position will regularly interface with suppliers, global procurement, operations, hourly plant personnel, engineering, finance, and plant leadership. This is the primary communication link between leadership project teams. This Leader works with both project and leadership teams to deliver projects on schedule and on budget, identifies potential risks and develops options during the course of the project.

Responsibilities:
Lead site Rapid Improvement Events that focus on Materials Management processes
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including ownership of material flow projects and support of engineering projects
Develop and manage the reporting system that compares gaps to what is normal and publish explanations for variances
Utilize six sigma and lean manufacturing tools to identify service, cash, and/or cost savings opportunities
Work with the Materials Manager to develop and prioritize a project pipeline
Provide materials project leadership for activities such as flow cell implementation, Supplier Transitions, VA/VE, footprint transitions
Plan for the development of the staff by organizing training sessions
Identify total cost and cash flow opportunities with suppliers
Other duties may be assigned
Team Responsibilities:
Document what is normal state and identify actions to correct abnormal conditions
Develop, implement and drive adherence to standard work as set by the materials council across the functions
Drive continuous improvement activities by establishing and executing a daily materials Gemba walk in all functional areas
Lead material processes associated with new flow cell implementation, acting as key point of contact and liaison between project teams and materials teams
Drive material operational excellence daily by identifying and improving inventory accuracy, material replenishment flow and organization through the use of Plan For Every Part (PFEP), production loading and scheduling, materials ordering, supplier management and system utilization
Identify Productivity and implement cost reduction/productivity projects to meet the corporate initiatives. Maintain pipeline and financial records for reporting and tracking productivity
Qualifications:
BA/BS degree required
APICS (CPIM) certification preferred
Considerable knowledge of industry related supply base
Able to provide direction and training to peers as needed.
Computer proficient with ERP
Data access/retrieval skills with extensive experience in data analysis, data manipulation using MS Excel and/or other tools as provided.
Basic mathematical skills
Experience with rate based or flow line (non-MRP) and job shop manufacturing environments.
Experience in operations, inventory management, MRP and lean manufacturing processes and visual management systems.
Key Competencies:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
In depth knowledge of computerized integrated information systems (manufacturing, materials management, production planning, procurement and distribution)
Must be focused on bottom line results
Must be a proactive change agent and possess leadership skills to build and maintain a team-oriented environment while leveraging lean methodologies
Must be a flexible, decisive and proactive problem solver
Must be able to work well in high pressure, fast-paced environment
Must be a strong communicator
Must be able to influence external suppliers to achieve fulfillment objectives
Must possess a strong customer service orientation and must provide dedicated support of internal customer requirements
Must possess strong organizational skills, with ability to work on multiple priorities at once
Must be proficient at conflict resolution
This is a safety sensitive role.
Compensation:
Base Pay Range: $ 90,000 - $115,000
Total compensation for this role will include a commission/incentive plan. Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
