Job Summary:The Tax Managing Director is responsible for applying industry-specific knowledge to advise clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. In this role, the Tax Managing Director is charged with applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues, recognizing, communicating potential risks and changes in tax policy, and making top-level decisions regarding filing, preparation, and resolution of questions from federal/state agencies. The Tax Managing Director will also be a critical member of the office/region leadership team and involved in the direct supervision as either a final or secondary reviewer under the partner. Additionally, the Tax Managing Director actively participates in marketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise while maintaining client relationships and acting as the primary contact for complex questions.Job Duties:Tax Compliance
Ensures compliance with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.Manages engagements to achieve engagement management metrics.Practices hands-on client service delivery.Responsible for overall client service by encouraging team adherence to TQM policies.
Research
Identifies when research is needed and frames issues clearly for analysis.Identifies complex issues for the engagement team and provides research methodology.
ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals
Applies Firm policies regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.Reviews and applies income tax provisions efficiently.
Tax Consulting
Develops and implements methods to maximize client benefits.Applies knowledge of multiple tax specialties for issue identification and resolution.
Tax Specialization
Develops an in-depth understanding of various areas of taxation.Advises clients on tax implications and recommends compliance methods.
Strategy Development
Introduces and develops new ideas to improve client and Firm positions.
Other duties as requiredSupervisory Responsibilities:Ability to supervise associates and managers.Reviews work prepared by team members and provides feedback.Acts as a Career Advisor to team members.Schedules and manages workload of associates.Provides performance feedback to team members.Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Education:Bachelor's degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred.Master's in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.Experience:Ten (10) or more years of relevant tax experience required.Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred.Prior supervisory experience required.License/Certifications:CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or EA required.Other professional degrees or certifications preferred.Software:Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.Experience with tax research databases preferred.Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Superior verbal and written communication skills.Ability to effectively delegate work.Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.Capacity to work well in a team environment.Ability to develop and manage a team of tax professionals.Ability to compose written tax advice.Capable of developing and maintaining client relationships.Executive presence to act as primary client contact.Individual salaries offered to candidates are determined after consideration of numerous factors including qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.California Range: $190,000 - $335,000Colorado Range: $185,000 - $225,000Illinois Range: $175,000 - $250,000Maryland Range: $190,000 - $260,000Minnesota Range: $170,000 - $250,000NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $205,000 - $250,000Washington Range: $196,400 - $249,400Washington DC Range: $205,000 - $300,000
