POSITION PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for operating various plastic manufacturing equipment within an assigned area as directed.The Production Operator accurately and efficiently completes production orders to established procedures and quality standards.The Production Operator will train in the compression-molding department, centerless grinding department and after proficiency is achieved, then receive training to work in the extrusion department.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
•Set-up and tear-down of compression molds.
•Accurately weighs out resin necessary for compression molding jobs.
•Operates ovens, presses and compression molding equipment to ensure the highest quality of production is achieved.
•Operates centerless grinders to final rod diameter while maintaining good surface finish and quality.
•Replaces worn centerless grinder work wheels, regulating wheels, and dresses the grinding wheels as needed.
•Operates wire wheel, manual lathe and manual mill to finish compression-molded shapes for inspection.
•Performs proper maintenance of all production equipment and ensure the safe operation of equipment.
•Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
•Report immediately to your production mentor and general manager any and all problems, which may affect safety, equipment, tooling and/or quality.
•After proficiency is achieved in compression-molding and centerless grinding, then perform set-up(s) and tear-down(s) of extrusion dies and extrusion equipment, and operates extruders to ensure the highest quality of production is achieved.
•After proficiency is achieved in compression-molding and centerless grinding, then accurately weighs out resin necessary for extrusion jobs and accurately cuts extruded rod to desired length.
•Maintains full working knowledge of all processes.
•Ensures a clean and organized work environment.
•Adheres to all company standards and policies.
•Conducts himself/herself in a professional manner in accordance with company guidelines.
•Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
•Must be able to meet company production requirements.
•Must have the willingness and aptitude to learn new skills.
•Must have a good work ethic.
•Ability and understanding to operate machines including, but not limited to computer terminal and other electronic devices, production equipment stated above, measurement scales, hand calipers, micrometers, pallet jack and forklift.
•Knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications and the capacity to learn new systems.
•Effective communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in a strong team environment.
•Tenacity in overcoming obstacles while maintaining productive and positive working relationships.
•Ability to execute high quality products while meeting firm production deadlines.
•Basic ability to read and understand standard operating procedures and work instructions.
•Must be able to perform accurate arithmetic functions involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, using decimals, percentages, fractions, and ratios.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
•Equivalent of high school diploma or G.E.D. certification.
•Experience in a plastics manufacturing setting is desired, but not required.
•Experience in compression-molding, extrusion, or centerless grinding of plastics is desired, but not required (we will provide proper training).
