Assistant Vice President or Vice President (experience dependent) New England Zone Leader
in our
Middle Market
team. Our Middle Market Underwriting team offers diverse multi-line capabilities targeted at select industry verticals such as real estate, hospitality, financial institutions, professional services, technology, and life science. We work through a network of retail brokers who share our commitment to long-term partnerships built on a strong service proposition. Location:
This position will be based out of our
Boston, MA
office. What you’ll be doing: Prioritizing and evaluating new and renewal submissions with the team to identify those accounts that provide the greatest opportunity for profit consistent with the business plan and corporate profit objectives. Growing & managing a team of local underwriters situated in the Boston market; coaching and developing a team across a variety of experience levels in both technical and market-facing skills. Coordinating production underwriting activity regarding traveling/marketing and target production plans. Pricing and analyzing coverage, structure, and exposures on individual risks. Driving data analytics within the region to sharpen underwriting strategy & uncover opportunities both internally & externally to improve process. Authorizing quotes/binders/invoices as appropriate within own authority level. Driving region-specific product strategies that best align internal and external stakeholders to win. Supporting our focus of building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture. Attending client/broker meetings, lunches, dinners, and other social outings as applicable. Engaging with, and influencing all levels of the organization, driving collaboration and trust. Utilizing broker and distribution resources to identify target opportunities and mobilizes team to pipeline and foster growth. Assisting in the review and monitoring accumulation reports. What you’ll bring: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Minimum of 8 years of P&C underwriting experience. Excellent task management skills with the ability to balance execution on both long- & short-term goals. Strong communicator across all levels of the organization & externally. Underwriting experience across all lines of business, including: Property, Auto, General Liability, Package, Primary Excess/Umbrella, and Workers’ Compensation. Strong attention to detail & excellent technical aptitude. Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Calm under pressure with excellent organizational skills. Strong sense of accountability & leads by example. Proven track record of building and maintaining strong business relationships. A strong customer service bias.
