Job Title: Supervising Substation Engineer
Primary Role:
The Supervising Engineer is fully accountable for the profitability, quality, and schedule performance of their engineering teams. This role involves resource allocation and management within the assigned design teams, ensuring all engineering tasks are completed to meet project goals. Extensive knowledge of substation design and engineering is essential, along with the capability to coordinate multiple project teams towards the completion of concurrent projects.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Supervising Substation Engineer may be responsible for any of the following:Overseeing projects to meet quality, scheduling, and profitability targetsSupervising multiple project teams to ensure on-time project completionAssigning projects based on team availability, project requirements, and deadlinesCollaborating with project engineers to synchronize efforts with construction and purchasing departmentsEnsuring project standards are met and design progress is efficientCoordinating project activities with customer representatives, team members, and management as neededTracking project schedules and budgets, ensuring they remain on targetUtilizing engineering software for tasks such as ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, short circuit, and load flow studiesProviding engineering and design support when necessary to meet project timelinesEnsuring engineering standards (NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI) are adhered toMaintaining responsible document management practicesFostering a sense of ownership and accountability within project team membersTraveling occasionally, as required by project demandsMaintaining job safety analysis recordsMinimum Qualifications / Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institutionLicensed Professional Engineer with at least 15 years of industry experienceIf licensed outside the work state, ability to obtain state licensure within a year of hireProficient in both substation engineering and design, with experience overseeing multiple projectsSkills:
Proven experience in managing a multidisciplinary design teamStrong understanding of high-voltage substation components (138kV+)In-depth knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals and three-phase power systemsProficiency in engineering application softwareFamiliarity with engineering standards such as NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSIExpertise in project design documents and drawingsStrong leadership in a team environment, effective communication skills, and proficiency with standard office softwareESP is an equal-opportunity employer.
