Product Development Manager
The Product Development Manager is responsible for managing the ideation and development of all product categories for the brand. Core responsibilities include researching and developing product and category trends, managing contract manufacturers, and making strategic recommendations for product catalog expansion and new item launches. This role requires collaboration across departments to drive innovation, improve processes, and reduce costs. Strong project management, effective communication, and an ability to innovate in both formula and packaging are essential.
Key Responsibilities:Collaborate with the VP of Marketing to conceptualize innovative products, highlight key trending ingredients, and develop new technologies. Ensure product concepts align with the brand's vision in the hair color and haircare categories.Develop a 2-3 year product pipeline, guiding ideas through proof of concept, forecasting, and obtaining approval to move into formulation.Work with R&D teams to create detailed product briefs outlining goals and cost constraints, ensuring formula submissions align with project objectives and maintain high-quality standards throughout the development process.Manage communication with external R&D teams to troubleshoot issues, provide guidance on raw materials, and ensure feedback on formula submissions meets product concept goals.Lead end-to-end development, including timeline execution, vendor management (packaging), and budget adherence to ensure product launches meet deadlines and financial targets.Support the development of haircare products by aligning vendors with product concepts, delivering high-quality results within the cost of goods (COG) expectations.Expand vendor partnerships to enhance product quality and performance while maintaining cost efficiency.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support various sales channels (DTC and wholesale) and assist with go-to-market strategy and execution.Implement process improvements in product development and planning to drive cost reductions and margin improvements.Track all product development projects, proactively communicating progress and any challenges or delays to the executive team to ensure alignment and timely solutions for on-track launches.Provide strong leadership, offering coaching and development opportunities to maximize team output and work quality.Qualifications:5-10 years of product development experience, with expertise in hair color.1-2 years of experience overseeing international product development.Proven expertise in managing contract manufacturers from end-to-end development.Highly detailed, proactive communication skills to drive projects forward.Creative problem-solving abilities to keep product launches on track and within budget.Strong analytical, interpersonal, and resourceful skills to manage complex development processes.
