Role OverviewThe Facilities Community Relations Specialist will play a key role in engaging with community members, school administrators, and various stakeholders to support projects. The ideal candidate will excel in strategic outreach, event coordination, and effective communication to foster positive relationships with the community and support the success of ongoing construction initiatives.
Key ResponsibilitiesIdentify and engage with different community sectors, local administrators, and elected officials to inform and involve them in construction projects and community initiatives.Develop and implement strategic outreach plans to ensure successful community engagement for assigned projects.Schedule, organize, and attend community outreach activities, including public meetings and events, to inform stakeholders.Inform and engage the community on the school construction process including site selection, California Environmental Quality Act and Environmental Protection Agency policies and procedures, acquisition and relocation, and design and construction issues.Provide information and written reports to Community Relations supervisors for presentations before the Board of Education, Bond Oversight Committee and other stakeholders.Lead and coordinate the efforts of various planning committee stakeholders for special events such as groundbreaking, ribbon cutting, and school openings, for the purpose of coordinating resources and monitoring event expenditures.Develop and maintain project files and contact databases for assigned projects.Provide information to District personnel, community groups, business and trade organizations, education agencies, and the public concerning the procurement policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
EducationGraduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in public relations, community relations, urban planning, business administration, public administration or related field OR Candidates who do not meet the education requirement may compensate for experience on a year for-year basis for up to 2 years.
ExperienceMinimum of four (4) years full time paid professional experience in a public or private agency related to performing community outreach activities, organizing outreach campaigns, and conducting field work for community-based organizations and groups.
Required SkillsStrong understanding of public relations principles and community engagement strategies.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to synthesize information from various sources and collaborate effectively with diverse groups.Detail-oriented with experience in creating promotional materials and presentations.Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.Valid California Driver’s License is required, as travel will be part of the role.
