Ardelle Associates is seeking a bankruptcy paralegal to support the United States Department of Justice in Chicago, IL. Candidate should have
substantial experience in bankruptcy
matters , including case intake, federal and state court filings, knowledge of bankruptcy case management software, strong communication skills, the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, attorneys, and staff in a fast-paced environment.DutiesProvides legal support services requiring specialized knowledge in bankruptcy, including title 11, United States Code (U.S.C.), and specifically, Chapter 7 (Liquidation), Chapter 13 (Adjustment of Debts), and Chapter 11 (Reorganization).Examines and evaluates case information for worthiness for enforcement action consistent with Program policies and applicable law;Electronically file documents with various courtsPrepare files and notes for hearings.Ability to conduct research using various research tools, including the Internet, Westlaw, Dunn & Bradstreet, Pacer, and other Bankruptcy software.Notes and corrects case file deficiencies;Reviews and analyzes available precedents relevant to cases;Determines the need for additional information, evidence, and witnesses, and plans a comprehensive approach to obtain this information;Through interviews, documents, and review of records on operations, looks for and evaluates the relevance and worth of evidence;Interviews potential witnesses for information and prepares witnesses for court appearances;Makes sound recommendations to the supervisor, consistent with Program policy and applicable law.Work closely with the assigned attorney or government official to provide required assistance and he/she is readily available;Consult prescribed sources of information for facts relating to matters of interest to the Program;Review documents to extract selected data and information relating to specific items;Review cases for specific indicia and make recommendations concerning additional information which should be requested;Attend hearings or court appearances to become informed on administrative and/or court procedures and the status of cases and prepare written reports concerning observations;Communicate orally and in writing in a professional manner with attorneys, parties, court personnel and others;Timely and accurately enter information into systems, including calendars, files and program system databases (ACMS, SARS, etc.);Review, sort, deliver and save electronic and paper mail and other communications;Assist with file creation, preparation and organization; andAssist with preparation for hearings, including the preparation and organization of pleadings, exhibits, witnesses and other related matters.QualificationsSkills in Case File analysis & evaluation; Ability to identify discrepancies; Review precedents; Data management; Pre-Trial preparation; Interviewing clients.Bachelor's DegreeParalegal Certificate preferred5+ years paralegal experience including providing legal bankruptcy supportFederal Background Investigation requiredCandidates with active federal clearances may be given special considerationJob Types: Contract, TemporaryPay: $34.96 - $39.37 per hourExpected hours: 40 per weekBenefits:
