Position Overview:We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Energy Trading Analyst with a focus on Financial Transmission Rights (FTR). The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing energy markets, identifying trading opportunities, and supporting the FTR trading desk. This role requires strong quantitative skills, an understanding of energy markets, and the ability to work in a fast-paced trading environment.
Key Responsibilities:Analyze FTR market performance and identify trading strategies to optimize portfolio returns.Monitor real-time market conditions, transmission congestion, and system operations to support trading decisions.Develop and maintain models for forecasting congestion and pricing dynamics in power markets.Collaborate with traders to assess risks and opportunities related to transmission grid constraints and congestion patterns.Assist in bidding strategies for FTR auctions and manage the lifecycle of FTR portfolios.Perform back-testing and stress-testing of FTR strategies to evaluate potential risks and performance.Generate daily/weekly reports on market activity, portfolio performance, and market outlook.Work with risk management and compliance teams to ensure adherence to trading policies and regulatory requirements.Stay current on market rules and developments in energy market structures, particularly in Independent System Operators (ISO) and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTO) markets.Use data visualization tools to present market insights and strategy performance to senior management.
Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.1-3 years of experience in energy trading, FTR markets, or related financial/commodity markets.Strong understanding of U.S. power markets, transmission grids, and FTR mechanisms.Proficiency in programming and data analysis tools such as Python, R, SQL, or Excel VBA.Familiarity with energy trading platforms, risk management systems, and market data tools.Excellent quantitative and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented mindset.Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with traders, analysts, and other stakeholders.Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced trading environment.
Preferred Skills:Experience with Independent System Operators (ISO) markets such as PJM, ERCOT, CAISO, MISO, or NYISO.Experience in financial modeling and statistical analysis.Knowledge of machine learning or advanced analytics for trading optimization.
