General Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care using the nursing process, demonstrating clinical competence relevant to the area of nursing practice, and adhering to the ANA Code of Ethics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Follows established hospital policy regarding patient safety measures such as infection prevention, safe patient handling and movement, critical lab notification, etc. to provide patient care in an optimally safe environment. Maintains and cares for central lines and prevents surgical site infections per policy. Provides quality nursing care including administration of medications, nursing intervention, and patient and family teaching. Performs such actions within the guidelines established in hospital policy and procedure to support quality outcomes and patient safety. Performs initial and ongoing assessments in all aspects of patient care to monitor patient status, improve quality, enhance patient safety, and to provide accurate information to health care team members. Documents all patient care activities and required quality monitoring items to comply with established quality measures and support clinical decision making. Communicates patient information to physicians and appropriate team members to improve patient outcomes. Delegates as appropriate while maintaining an atmosphere fostering team work and accountability. Communicates with patient and family members in a timely manner to enhance the patient experience and provide education to support health care outcomes. Demonstrates critical thinking into nursing practice and attempts to develop skills and abilities through continuing education.
Education Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
Work Experience One year experience preferred.
Certification/License Current RN license in the State of Missouri or Compact Licensure. Graduate nurses (GNs) must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
Mental/Physical Requirements Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities, standing, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching and nearly constant walking required.
Working Conditions Frequent exposure to infectious disease and communicable disease via blood and other bodily fluids. May encounter hostile persons at times.
