JOB SUMMARYReporting directly to a Court Administrator, the Court Clerk II is responsible for a variety of increasingly complex legal procedural duties in support of the Justice of the Peace Court involving the filing and disposition of criminal and traffic cases and civil claims.EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMEDProvides customer service and performs detailed legal procedures associated with the receipt, review, processing and maintenance of court documents and case files.Prepares and processes varied legal procedures and documents including summons, subpoenas, writs, notifications, motions, orders, judgments, abstracts, appeals and dismissals.Sets court appearance schedule and assists with docket coordination.Serves as courtroom clerk, as required.Prepares a variety of reports related to case management and compliance.Cross-trains for departmental coverage of specialized duty assignments.Works with various local, county and state agencies.Utilizes legal reference materials to perform research related to current laws and procedures.Schedules court hearings and mails out notices.Attends all meetings and trainings, as required.Performs special duties as assigned.Criminal Clerk Assignment:Performs transactions related to citations, warrants, pleas, booking sheets and time-served requests.Prepares, issues and recalls warrants and disseminates notifications.Processes cash bonds, surety bonds, appeal bonds, bond forfeitures and bond surrenders.Processes Driver Safety course applications.Civil Clerk Assignment:Schedules and processes court hearings for a wide variety of civil claims and cases.Processes evictions, small claims, debt claims and transfer of venues.Processes Occupational Driver’s License requests.Provides customer service to all litigants.Performs research to maintain up-to-date knowledge of monthly judgment interest rates.Juvenile Case Manager Assignment:Performs various civil and criminal transactions pertaining to juvenile defendants.Serves as Coordinator and Facilitator for juvenile programs.Maintains program(s) sponsorship and oversees fund disbursement.Performs home and school visits; meets with and provides support to juveniles.Serves as courtroom clerk for juvenile cases.Collections Coordinator Assignment:Processes requests for payment plans, indigency review and community service.Conducts reference interviews and verifications.Processes past-due notices by mail and performs past-due phone calls.Schedules show cause hearings for payment non-compliance.Monitors payment plans and takes appropriate action to issue or recall warrants.ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPSReports directly to – Court Administrator.Direct Reports – No.PHYSICAL DEMANDSPosition involves prolonged sitting at a workstation, prolonged reading, visual examination of documents, reaching, walking, twisting, bending, repetitive motions and standing.Position involves occasional lifting and carrying of up to fifty (50) pounds and exertion of up to twenty-five (25) pounds of force to move objects.ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORSWork is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned environment.High-volume court with stressful situations.Interaction with persons accused or convicted of crimes.IRREGULAR HOURSWork outside of the regular office hours (Monday-Friday) may be required.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this job.
