POSITION PURPOSE

Serve as a team member, performing custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness and care of facilities during the weekends. Provide customer service for residential students and conferees.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clean and sanitize restrooms, shower rooms and fixtures in accordance with established procedures and standards; refill restroom dispenser.

Clean chalkboards; sweep, mop and vacuum floors; empty wastebaskets, trash and recycle containers; empty and clean ashtrays and cigarette urns; replace light bulbs.

Dust and clean walls, doors, windows, woodwork, furniture, etc.

Clean kitchenettes, elevators and stairwells.

Strip, clean, buff and apply finish to floors; use high-speed floor buffers/polishers; vacuum and clean carpets.

Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools such as a vacuum, broom, mop, squeegee, or ladder for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets and furniture.

Vacuum furniture, drapery and walls.

Secure building when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; report unauthorized occupants.

Set up and take down equipment such as chalkboards and easels and furnishings such as folding chairs and tables needed for meetings, conferences and events.

Follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding the use of chemicals, supplies and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures.

Report need for repairs and maintenance.

May operate high-pressure washer.

Inventory, sort and issue linen and bedding; keep student room inventory records; change and make beds.

Maintain simple records and produce simple reports.

Wash vents, radiators, light fixtures, waste receptacles.

Wash interior and easily accessible exterior windows.

Perform cleaning and related duties in areas within a reasonable distance from buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment to remove snow or debris, or to sweep sidewalks or stairs.

Perform various duties related to students checking in and checking out.

Drive University vehicles to deliver items and commute to various HFS locations in or around campus.

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Physical ability to do required work.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Willingness to work any shift.

Ability to understand and produce written and verbal instructions in English.

Ability to effectively interact and communicate in a variety of situations.

Work independently with minimal supervision.

One year of experience as a Custodian or housekeeper.

An eye for detail.

Dedication to a high level of customer satisfaction.

Possession of a valid State of Washington Driver’s License.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Custodians may be assigned to work in a residence hall, apartment complex, office/work area or UW Dining facility.
