ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:As directed by supervisory personnel or from written or verbal instructions, blueprints, or sketches, performs duties in the trades required in the efficient maintenance of the plant or office. Under the direction of the Supervisor, performs assignments in the following general categories:
UTILITYPerforms general troubleshooting and maintenance functions including: mechanical, hydraulic, air, plumbing, piping, welding and simple electrical repairs. Simple electrical includes but is not limited to replacing lamps, unplugging machines, moving machines and plugging them back in. Unplugging 120 volt or less equipment, repairing the item including cord replacements, and plugging the equipment back in to test and confirm operation. Help electricians in jobs that require more than one person. Performs maintenance and preventative maintenance on facility systems, production equipment, lift truck basic battery maintenance and other equipment as directed. Cleans and maintains tools and equipment used in the performance of the job. Snow removal as requested.
POLLUTION CONTROLAssignments include emptying and cleaning of filter press and water clarifier; performing all duties to insure proper operation of the filtering press, waste water equipment, tanks, pumps, and plumbing in the filter press area to include, but not limited to, loading, unloading, changing bags and cleaning bag filtering system, cleaning plates and pipes and changing complete air operated and non-hardwired electrical pumps in the filter press area, cleaning plates, and keeping the filter press area, tank and clarifier areas clean. Using lift truck to move containers or equipment to other areas of the plant. Also to perform all barrel plating maintenance to include, but not limited to, barrel maintenance, changing motor sprockets and gear boxes, adjusting chain tension. Other duties as assigned. Keep abreast of current policies on both.
All employees are required to:Complete and pass a formal 6-month training program.Abide by safety policies and housekeeping practices.Ensure the quality and safe operation of items worked on.Accurately complete process and quality documentation.Work with limited supervision.Communicate respectfully with others.Perform other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:Candidates must have a 2-year technical degree in maintenance or equivalent and or 2 years previous industrial maintenance experience, or current knowledge in or be capable of acquiring in a reasonable time; essential job requirements. Must have current knowledge in or be capable of acquiring in a reasonable time several essential job requirements, which include but are not limited to the following:
Knowledge/Use of powered and non-powered hand, bench and shop tools.The ability to meet lifting and/or climbing requirements, including working 20 feet or more above the ground. The position also involves occasional work in confined spaces.Operation of forklifts and aerial lift platforms.Knowledge/Use of test, measurement and diagnostic equipment.Knowledge/Use of bearing splitters and pullers.Performing coupling alignments.Knowledge/Use of pipe threading equipment.Working knowledge of Chemical Right To Know, Confined Space and Lockout Tagout Authorized training.Ability to read blueprints.Knowledge of basic minor electrical repairs.Knowledge/Use in SMAW (stick) and GMAW (MIG or wire feed) welding processes.Knowledge/Use in flame and plasma cutting processes.Knowledge/Use in metal shearing and braking.Acquiring Boiler License (must have a minimum of a Minnesota Special Engineers boiler license or obtain one within one year on the job).Mechanical proficiency in troubleshooting and the repair of pneumatics, mechanical, hydraulic machines and mechanisms.Reasoning ability to define problems, collect information and draw valid conclusions.Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
