Description

The following positions are in the Special Design Program and Paraeducators may be reassigned during the year based on student enrollment or other factors:

ONE OR MORE OPENINGS

* Itinerant - Floats to various locations in all of the above programs. TheParaeducator must be knowledgeable of appropriate de-escalation and restraint techniques or be trained as a condition of employment and physically capable of restraining students up to 170 pounds (two trained adults required).

* HOURS PER DAY: 7 * SCHOOL YEAR POSITION (192 DAYS / 10 MONTHS) * ANTICIPATED START DATE: 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR * SALARY: LEVEL 33 on the Paraeducator Salary Schedule. Experience increments depend on experience in the same or similar permanent position within a Washington State public school or another state's public school. Responsibilities

* Provide instruction in core academic areas designed by the teachers/specialists. Assist the special education teacher/general education teacher in the implementation of the student Individual Education Plan, including student accommodations and modifications. Assist the teacher in preparing materials and collecting and recording data. * Participate as a contributing member of a collaborative team. Assist the teacher in implementing behavioral and social skills programs as designed and supervised by certificated staff. Under the supervision of certificated staff, implement the district de-escalation and soft-restraint techniques as needed. * Assist students with physical and mobility needs and personal care. Assist secondary students with pre-vocational and transition activities. Manage student equipment and assistive technology as needed. Supervise and promote safety of students in multiple settings. Administer, monitor, and document medication following the District policy/procedures and student health care plan, as needed.

Qualifications

* Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed. * Must provide high school diploma (orequivalent) AND 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits from an accredited college, AA or BA degree, OR pass an academically rigorous assessment. * Must complete Core Competencies within one year if hired into aParaeducator position (refer to theESS Collective Bargaining Agreement). * Demonstrated interest in working with students with a broad range of disabilities. * One year of successful work experience, training, or school district experience with students or adults with disabilities preferred. * Ability to respond appropriately to aggressive and physical behaviors. * Have successfully completed or be willing to complete the District de-escalation/soft restraint training. Must demonstrate initial competency level as measured by instructor observation. * Willing and physically capable of kneeling, bending, and working or sitting on the floor with students; running after students, based on student needs. * Provide personal care assistance to students including, but not limited to, feeding, tube feeding (with training), toileting and diapering, based on student needs. Must pass the District strength and agility screening test, when necessary and based on student needs. * Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Heavier lifting will utilize a two-person lift or assistive devices. * Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators while maintaining confidentiality. * Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. * Demonstrated ability to follow directions, carry out routines, and implement interventions as directed by certificated staff or supervisors. * Basic computer skills required. * Proficiency in basic communication skills and ability to see, hear, and listen to the teacher and students throughout the classroom or school settings in order to supervise and maintain a safe environment for a diverse group of students. * Must have access to reliable transportation.

* Work Schedule - Days and hours (listed above) are subject to change depending on program and district needs. * Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays - Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement (Collective Bargaining Agreements) as negotiated. * Benefits Highlights:
