Position SummaryStony Brook Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Lead Programmer Analyst to join Stony Brook Medicine’s Enterprise Analytics team, reporting to the Assistant Director of Enterprise Analytics. As a Lead Programmer Analyst, the candidate will become a key member of a multi-disciplinary project team operating within a fast-paced environment acquiring data from multiple sources, assisting team members with data modeling, extraction, translation and load patterns that will be used throughout the reporting enterprise. The candidate will also work closely with team members to define and execute best practice processes and procedures to validate reports sourced from the various applications used across the Stony Brook Medicine Health system.The candidate must have strong analytical skills with the ability to support and interface with all levels of management. Qualified candidates will demonstrate outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.As a Lead Programmer Analyst, the candidate will bring a balance of creative problem solving, hands-on data analytics and practical software integration skills. The candidate will support clinical and administrative leadership in making strategic data driven decisions by finding actionable insights to drive change across Stony Brook Medicine’s reporting enterprise.Duties of a Lead Programmer Analyst – Enterprise Analytics may include the following but are not limited to:Extract data from multiple source systems and produce reports in the format requested by the Stony Brook Medicine community for the purposes of patient care, process monitoring or regulatory requirements.Work closely with various clinical and administrative departments to review project requirements, develop data marts, reports and dashboards as needed.Help improve performance and accuracy of existing reports by optimizing existing SQL queries as necessary using best practice techniques.Assist team in the development and maintenance of the Enterprise Analytics report catalog, data dictionaries and data marts.Assist the Enterprise Analytics team with technical projects, integrating data sourced from disparate clinical and administrative applications.Design, code and operationalize end to end database models and schemas that will be used to develop custom data marts, dashboards and reports used across the enterprise.Create dashboards and visualizations of data as requested by project stakeholders to satisfy key Stony Brook Medicine initiatives.Author technical requirements documents and design specifications as needed for usage by internal and external team members.Document and communicate results of data analyses in a clear and effective manner to appropriate stakeholders.Assess database implementation policies and procedures to ensure compliance with internal and external regulations.Improve performance and accuracy of existing reports, data marts and dashboards that are used throughout the Stony Brook Medicine Health System.Provide technical support across the various production systems used by the Enterprise Analytics team.Work as a core member of the Enterprise Analytics team with the ability to multitask when required based on project plan and business priorities.QualificationsRequired:Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related applied science field. In lieu of the above, Associates degree or higher with at least five years’ experience as stated herein.3 to 5+ years’ experience in data mining, data acquisition, transformation, cleansing and validation of both structured and unstructured data from disparate data sources.Minimum of 3 years professional experience in a similar role as a Data Reporting Analyst within a fast paced data driven environment.Experience extracting data to produce reports and files.Experience creating reports via Crystal Reporting or similar report writing tools.Proficient working knowledge of Relational Databases and Structured Query Language.Experience with SQL server and or Oracle with the ability to write sound, efficient, and proper SQL statements ensuring stability, reliability, and performance of databases.Experience with Tableau or other statistical visualization software.Experience with supporting production systems used for data analytics or statistical data modeling.Detail oriented, customer focused and strong organizational skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong skills with the MS Office Product suite.Preferred:Experience with database schema design, modeling and designing database tables that facilitate efficient information retrieval.Experience with stored procedures and able to query complex datasets and derive conclusions, including usage of joins to aggregate data sets between multiple tables.Experience with optimizing large complicated SQL statements using indexes and knowledge of best practices.Experience with statistical data analytics, visualization, and or predictive modeling software.Experience with the Cerner or other Electronic Medical Record applications performing Electronic Health Record review, abstraction and analysis.Special Notes:
