Position Details:
Two (2) part-time positions. One (1) position in Mathematics and one (1) in Science. These positions are grant- and/or categorically funded, and their continuation is contingent upon the grant's renewal or availability of categorical funds. The expected end date is June 30, 2025. The District reserves the right to extend, modify, or eliminate this position by this end date or based on the availability of funds.
Program Description:
Student Support Services TRIO (TRIO Classic) at Santiago Canyon College supports 140 students by offering holistic and comprehensive services designed to help them achieve their academic goals. We provide personalized one-on-one tutoring appointments with a focus on developing students' skills in math and writing--key areas that often challenge first-generation students and impact their persistence. Our mission is to enhance college retention and graduation rates while facilitating smooth transitions between levels of higher education.TRIO Classic is a grant program funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
Job Description
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Tutors students from diverse backgrounds in content of specific courses and/or study skills on a one-to-one or small group basis; identify problem areas on subject matter, simplify concepts to assist in learning material, review and help clarify lecture materials; assists instructors in implementing educational plans; prepares teaching aids and instructional materials; conducts examination review and study sessions; conducts meetings with certificated staff members regarding progress of students; administers and scores tests; prepares and submits reports as required; prepares schedules and makes appointments; attends staff meetings and training sessions as necessary; performs record keeping responsibilities; performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: principles of tutoring at the college level; proficient level of understanding in subject area; good written and oral communication skills; record keeping.
Ability to: establish and maintain effective relationships with students and instructors; able to communicate difficult concepts with patience and desire to help the student.

Training and ExperienceAny combination of training and experience equivalent to an Associates level of college training and/or satisfactory completion (grade A or B) of the courses the incumbent is instructing in.
