Lecturer- Peer Recovery Support Specialist - Continuing Education
Malcolm X College is currently seeking a part-time lecturer to teach Peer Recovery Support. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and engage students in critical thinking and problem-solving. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Provide instruction in Recovery Support. Adapt teaching methods as needed. Process students’ records per Malcolm X College guidelines. Plan and conduct activities that provide students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. Monitor students' performance to make suggestions for improvement and ensure that they satisfy course standards, training requirements, and objectives. Be prepared to teach this course in-person. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in peer support or recovery-based roles, with a demonstrated understanding of peer support principles, ethics, and the recovery process. Proven experience in teaching, mentoring, or facilitating workshops, especially in recovery support or mental health settings. Knowledge of adult learning principles is advantageous. Personal experience with recovery from mental health or substance use disorders, combined with a demonstrated commitment to maintaining recovery preferred. Familiarity with Illinois state requirements for peer recovery certification, including testing, internship, and performance domains. Ability to operate technical equipment and computer software.
