Reports To:
Superintendent and/or Principal
Under the supervision of the building administration, the classroom paraprofessional
will be assigned a schedule and will assist in the supervision of instructional activities,
working closely with students on an individual and small group basis, as well as the
usual school routines and systems- e.g bus arrival, recess duty, lunch duty, school
activities etc.
Essential Functions:
* Implement procedures and curriculum materials as instructed by the teacher. * Monitor student behavior in the classroom, lunchroom, during recess; discipline
students according to procedures; monitor students entering or leaving the
building, between classes, and/or boarding buses. * Track student behaviors and document observations using a tracking system;
provide progress reports to the teacher. * Maintain appropriate records as instructed by the teacher or other special
services staff. * Support and implement behavioral plans with students. * Assist with the adaptation of classroom materials. * Facilitate independent working, social, and self-help skills. * Communicate effectively with students. * Follow required duties and schedules promptly and efficiently. * Assist teachers as needed in emergencies. * Assist in providing instruction to students to meet course outcomes. * Assist in establishing and maintaining a learning environment as specified by
course goals and curriculum outcomes. * Assist in evaluating and specifying the direction of instruction to maximize each
student's potential. * Maintain accurate data on student progress and communicate this progress to
teachers. * Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal tests. * Implement behavior management strategies using the techniques outlined by the
teacher. * Assist in organizing and preparing a variety of instructional materials.
Other Functions:
* Perform recess duty. * Assist with lunchroom supervision. * Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
* Work or volunteer experience with school-age children. * Basic computer skills. * Experience with students in academic areas. * Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and
parents. * Demonstrated ability to work with and supervise students. * Possess personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative, cooperativeness, and
confidentiality. * Demonstrated ability to perform under conditions of constant interruption. * Demonstrated ability to establish.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
* Regular attendance during work hours.
Employment Requirements - SSD job offer is contingent upon satisfying the following:
* SSD job offer is contingent upon satisfying the following: * Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through
WSP and FBI. * High school diploma or equivalent (GED). * Must meet one of the following educational requirements: * Associate's Degree OR * 48 sem./72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university; OR * Passing score of 455 on the ParaPro Assessment. * Must be willing to complete the minimum 24 hours of Fundamental Course of
Study training as required by the state.
