This position is a 6-month in-office fixed-term employment in Bellevue, WA.
The person we’re looking for:PUBG Studios Seattle is seeking a skilled Concept Artist to take on a high-impact role on our team.
As a Concept Artist, you will play a crucial role in defining the visual identity of our game. You will work closely with the Creative Director, Lead Artists, and other functions to create compelling concept art that conveys the style, mood, and design of the environments, characters, and assets in our game. Your work will help guide the 3D artists, animators, and other creative teams in bringing the game’s vision to life.
Responsibilities
Create high-quality concept art for environments, characters, props, and visual effects.
Collaborate with the Creative Director and design team to define the overall visual style of the game.
Translate narrative and design briefs into visual concepts, mood boards, and sketches.
Provide detailed designs and orthographic views for 3D modelers to work from.
Develop thumbnail sketches, color palettes, and key visual moments to explore different art styles and compositions.
Iterate concepts based on feedback from the Creative Director and other team members.
Ensure that concepts align with the technical limitations and design goals of the game engine.
Contribute to brainstorming sessions and offer creative solutions to visual challenges.
Stay current on trends in visual design, video games, and related media to bring fresh ideas to the table.
When needed, help drive efforts with external vendors for both conceptual and 3D art.
A Typical Day May Include:
Champion visual quality by providing illustration, reference gathering and studies.
Work closely with the team and provide clarity for future work and help set visual quality targets.
Participate in daily reviews of current work and development delta for the game.
Use past experiences to help drive art direction and priorities for each milestone, pivot as needed and at times lend a hand in areas outside your area of expertise.
Requirements:
6+ years of experience as a Concept Artist in the video game industry or a related field.
Strong portfolio showcasing a variety of concept art, specifically scene composition, set dressing, natural landscapes, lighting, material definition, color theory, architecture and industrial design.
Proficiency in industry-standard digital painting tools (e.g., Photoshop).
Ability to create both quick sketches and detailed, polished illustrations.
Strong collaboration skills and a team-oriented attitude.
Ability to take and incorporate feedback effectively.
Experience in realistic world-building and visual storytelling.
Basic knowledge of 3D software (SketchUp, Blender, etc.)
Passion for video games and the art of game design.
Legally authorized to work in the United States and able to work primarily from the Bellevue, WA office.
Bonus Skills:
Experience working in different art styles (e.g., stylized, realistic, etc.).
Demonstrated experience with character design and anatomy.
Familiarity with game engines like Unreal Engine or Unity.
Experience with storyboarding or creating key art for cinematic moments.
A background in traditional art or illustration.
